General Overview:

The Events Manager works directly with Executive Director of Events to plan and execute events in support of the University of Miami’s Development and Alumni Relations related events.  Events include groundbreakings, dedications, forums, lectures, memorials, scholarship lunches and events assigned on a case-by-case basis by the schools/colleges/units/president’s office/student affairs.  The Events Manager will be responsible for the organization of downloads and uploads and the maintenance and enhancements of database lists and reports.

Essential Responsibilities:

•    Manages and supports development and alumni relations related events, along with other areas as assigned. 

•    Manages and creates timelines, checklists, budgets, staffing and logistics for each event.  Directs the timeline of activities from inception to the successful completion.

•    Develops clear strategies, budgets and objectives for each event.

•    Develops and enhances invitation database lists, reports and all other printed materials relating to the events, preparing them for approval by the Executive Director of Strategic Events.

•    Work closely with and negotiate with external vendors to coordinate goods and services for special events. Manage relationships and bidding process to ensure the best service and most efficient cost for goods and services.

•    Manage special committees for events. This includes developing goals and objectives for committees, facilitating meetings and leading those committees towards successfully completing the established goals and objectives.

•    Oversees all staff working the events and ensures all is briefed and properly trained.

•    Designs and develops sequence of events/program for all assigned events.

•    Creates event budget, and reconcile/manage correspondence expenses. Ensure that expenditures on all accounts do not exceed budgeted levels.

•    Other duties as assigned.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in relevant field required.

Experience:
Minimum 5 years of relevant experience required.

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:
•Knowledge of business and management principles.
•Ability to direct, manage, implement, and evaluate department operations.
•Ability to establish department goals, and objectives that support the strategic plan.
•Ability to effectively plan, delegate and/or supervise the work of others.
•Ability to lead, motivate, develop, and train others
