The University of Miami's College of Arts and Sciences has an exciting opportunity for a full time Research Associate 1 to work in Coral Gables, FL.

The PRIDE Lab (Psychology of Racism, Identity, Diversity & Equity) in the Department of Psychology at the University of Miami, directed by Dr. Simon Howard, invites applications for a full-time Research Coordinator/Lab Manager position. The PRIDE Lab conducts social psychological research examining the causes, consequences, and lived experiences of racism and discrimination, as well as psychological processes related to identity, collective action, resilience, and social change. We are also engaged in research on the relationship between spiritual connectedness and loneliness which is funded by the John Templeton Foundation. Our work spans multiple contexts, including digital environments, community settings, and institutional systems and aims to produce scholarship that advances both scientific understanding and real-world impact.

The position will begin July 2026 and is expected to last 1-2 years, with the possibility of extension contingent upon strong performance and funding availability. This position is an excellent opportunity for recent graduates seeking research experience before applying to PhD programs in social psychology or related fields. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, intellectually curious, and motivated to contribute to a collaborative and mission-driven research environment. Applicants should have strong research interests in social psychology, racism and discrimination, identity, health inequities, social justice, or religious cognition and should be eager to develop skills in research design, data collection, analysis, and scholarly writing.

CORE JOB SUMMARY
The Research Associate 1, GAB supports research activities for the assigned division by conducting laboratory experiments on assigned research projects. Moreover, the incumbent operates with the goal of advancing his/her expertise through continued education, training, and research.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Understands and interprets research protocols and procedures.

  • Participates in the publication of significant results.

  • Maintains an overview of relevant research findings.

  • Ensures all research is undertaken according to good research practice.

  • Keeps abreast of current publications relative to methods, techniques, and developments within the area of research.

  • Collects, prepares, analyzes, dissects, and evaluates specimens or tissue cultures.

  • Operates and maintains laboratory equipment.

  • Performs a variety of routine assays, tests, and studies.

  • Performs calculations to complete research test results, collects data, and performs statistical analysis of laboratory results.

  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Lab Specific Responsibilities:

The Research Coordinator/Lab Manager will work closely with Dr. Simon Howard and members of the PRIDE Lab to support ongoing research projects and manage the lab’s daily operations. Responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the day-to-day operations of the PRIDE Lab

  • Coordinating multiple research projects examining topics such as racism, discrimination, identity, collective action, spirituality and loneliness, and health disparities

  • Recruiting, selecting, training, and mentoring undergraduate research assistants

  • Organizing and facilitating weekly lab meetings

  • Designing and implementing studies, including:

o    Preparing and managing IRB protocols

o    Programming online studies (e.g., Qualtrics)

o    Coordinating participant recruitment and compensation

  • Managing data storage, organization, and cleaning

  • Preparing datasets for statistical analysis

  • Assisting with data analysis and visualization

  • Preparing conference presentations, research reports, and manuscripts

  • Reviewing and editing academic writing and research materials

  • Supporting grant preparation and research documentation

  • Assisting with the lab’s public scholarship and outreach, including social media, research summaries, and website updates

  • Serving as the primary point of contact for PRIDE Lab communications

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology or related social science field required

  • No previous experience required, experience in social science research methods preferred

  • Learning Agility: Ability to learn new procedures, technologies, and protocols, and adapt to changing priorities and work demands.

  • Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively with others and contribute to a team environment.

  • Technical Proficiency: Skilled in using office software, technology, and relevant computer applications.

  • Communication: Strong and clear written and verbal communication skills for interacting with colleagues and stakeholders.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience working in a social psychology or behavioral science research lab

  • Training in research methods and statistics

  • Experience with statistical analysis software (e.g., R, SPSS, Stata)

  • Familiarity with research platforms such as Qualtrics, Prolific, MTurk, or CloudResearch

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace

  • Strong organizational and project management skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication

  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

  • Experience mentoring or supervising undergraduate students

  • Experience with data visualization, website management, or digital design tools

  • Intention to pursue a PhD in social psychology or a related field
