Minimum Requirements:
- High school diploma or GE
- Strong customer service and communication skills
- Comfortable working directly with patients
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced clinical environment
- Basic computer skills and willingness to learn EHR systems
- Current CPR or BLS card (must remain active)
Bonus Points For:
·      Prior experience as an optometry assistant, ophthalmic assistant, or medical assistant
·      Knowledge of vision insurance plans (VSP, EyeMed, Medi-Cal, etc.)
·      Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus
·      Certification (COA/CPOT) is a plus but not required
Your Role in Action
As our Optometry Assistant, you will:
The Optometry Assistant supports the optometrist and clinical team by providing high-quality patient care, assisting with eye exams, and ensuring smooth clinic operations. This role is patient-facing, detail-oriented, and critical to delivering an excellent patient experience from check-in through check-out.
Key Responsibilities
·      Greet and prepare patients for eye examinations
·      Obtain patient histories, visual acuity, and preliminary testing
·      Assist the optometrist during exams and procedures
·      Educate patients on eye health, treatment plans, and eyewear options
·      Apply eye drops and assist with contact lens training (as trained)
·      Perform pre-testing (auto-refraction, tonometry, retinal imaging, visual fields, etc.)
·      Maintain, clean, and calibrate optometry equipment
·      Accurately document exam data in the EHR system
·      Schedule appointments and manage patient flow
·      Verify insurance eligibility and assist with basic billing questions
·      Support check-in/check-out and collect payments as needed
·      Maintain exam rooms and ensure clinic readiness
·      Maintain patient records in compliance with HIPAA
·      Assist with inventory management and ordering supplies
·      Collaborate with optometrists, technicians, and front office staff
·      Uphold clinic policies, workflows, and quality standards
