Essential Duties for Material Process Inspector II:

Handles material or production problems referred by less experienced inspectors.
Prepares and maintains inspection or test reports and issues material reports.
Reviews plans and material specifications for changes in material requirements.
Conducts pavement evaluations in the field.
Coordinates core drill or auger rig operations.
Maintains a diary of inspection or test details.
Maintains and calibrates equipment.
Maintains inventory of test supplies.
Performs tests and inspection duties.
Records test data on worksheets and performs calculations to convert raw data into specific units of measurement.
Reports test results to field construction personnel and may assist in determining cause for material problems.
Secures, logs in and prepares samples of raw materials or manufactured materials at various stages of production for testing.
Drives/travels to laboratories, manufacturing plants, points of supply, warehouses and project sites to monitor status of programs
Works full-time at a geographically separated location.

Essential Duties for Material Process Inspector III (In addition to the above):

Advises supervisor of inspection activities and problems at plants and assists in coordinating inspections.
Coordinates test and inspection results with engineers, inspectors, material producers and suppliers and field construction personnel and may assist in determining cause for material problems.
Keeps equipment mileage and service records and schedules equipment repairs.
Maintains field record books for each construction project within assigned area office.
Orders equipment and supplies.
Records test data on worksheets and performs calculations to convert raw data into specific units of measurement.
Analyzes procedures to identify deficiencies and recommends improvements to management.
Conducts nuclear density tests on subgrade, base and asphaltic concrete pavement.
Coordinates core drill or auger rig operations.
Observes tests and inspections and reviews reports from other inspectors; performs quality assurance for tests and inspections.

Essential Duties for Material Process Inspector IV (In addition to the above):

Assists in overseeing district laboratory operations and monitoring material testing requirements and results for compliance with specifications.
Conducts safety and/or employee forum meetings.
Is responsible for operations and works full-time at a geographically separated location.
Serves as the District Nuclear Safety Officer or Radiation Safety Officer.
Trains and assists other inspectors and private sector employees and provides project specification information.
Assists in recommending changes or modifications to existing specifications
May serve as a lead worker by serving as a resource for complex questions; presenting workflow and operational updates
to the supervisor/manager; providing input on team members’ career conversations; and approving leave requests to ensure
operations coverage.
Drives/travels to laboratories, manufacturing plants, points of supply, warehouses and project sites to monitor status of
programs, meet with supervisors and managers to resolve problems and perform unannounced inspection of operations.
Handles problem calls from producers, plant inspectors and construction project field personnel.
Independently plans, coordinates and performs inspections at geographically separated locations.
Informs plant personnel of material or production problems, rejects substandard material and assists in determining cause
for material problems.
Interprets plans and specifications and negotiates with producers and suppliers to resolve differences.
Oversees work activities at different and/or remote locations.
Plans, coordinates, assigns, monitors and reviews the work of technical employees.
Prepares budgets.
Conducts research and development and prepares material designs for concrete, hot mix asphaltic concrete, base, aggregate
and other materials.
Reviews plans and material specifications for changes in material requirements.
Secures, logs in and prepares samples of raw materials or manufactured materials at various stages of production for testing.

Essential Duties for Material Process Inspector V (In addition to the above):

Advises supervisor of inspection activities and problems at plants and assists in coordinating inspections.
Consults with producers and suppliers, including on-site visits, regarding material characteristics, specifications and quality control requirements; identifies problems and recommends solutions.
Mentors and develops technical employees in test and inspection procedures and material specifications.
Conducts Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) research, development and design.
Conducts nuclear density tests on subgrade, base and asphaltic concrete pavement.
Conducts pavement evaluations in the field.
Conducts safety and/or employee forum meetings.
Investigates compaction problems associated with hot mix asphaltic concrete.
Is responsible for operations and works full-time at a geographically separated location.
May serve as a lead worker and the related tasks.
Performs construction inspection.
Plans, coordinates, assigns, monitors and reviews the work of technical employees.
Prepares and maintains inspection or test reports and issues material reports.
Assists in engineering-related data collection, inspections, assessments, analysis, and review activities for plan development by others.
Represents the Department in dealings with producers and suppliers.
Provides material and pavement design recommendations
Acts as Project Manager for consultant contracts.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies.

Experience:

Material Process Inspector II: 1 year of experience in laboratory work, material inspection or other engineering related work.

Material Process Inspector III: 2 years of experience in laboratory work, material inspection or other engineering related work.

Material Process Inspector IV: 3 years of experience in laboratory work, material inspection or other engineering related work.

Material Process Inspector V: 4 years of experience in laboratory work, material inspection or other engineering related work.

(Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related college education or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications

Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
