POSITION PURPOSE: The Cafe1946 Manager is responsible for supervising employees of Cafe 1946 and supervising the retail store and operations. Â The Cafe1946 ManagerÂ
reports directly to the Assistant Director of College Stores and indirectly reports to the Director of College Stores.
GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Â
- Responsible for opening and closing procedures, determines grocery/supply needs, and prepares inventory for the Assistant Director of College Stores and Comptroller.
- Communicates special needs and issues with Assistant College Stores.
- Assists in recruiting, evaluating, and preparing work schedules for 1946 staff.
- Assists in interviewing and hiring staff.Â
- Responsible for the operations to ensure both businesses are staffed with qualified, friendly people and the customer service standards are being adhered to.
- Assists in administering orientation, in-service training, and safety programs.
- Supervises preparation and serving of menu items.
- Inspects all food preparation and service areas for adherence to established standards of sanitation, care and use of equipment and appearance of work area.
- Assists in preparing drinks.
- Ensure the store is always clean.
- Maintains communication with Assistant Director of College Stores.
- Monitors expenditures and income and safeguards and provides accounting for cash receipts in accordance with procedures established by the college business office.
- Reconciles, prepares deposits and delivers them to the cashier’s office.Â
- Sets daily sales goals and communicates goals with staff to achieve yearly sales goals.
- Maintains a shared document with directors to track sales progress.Â
- Schedule events to increase traffic and revenue.
- Communicate with customers and other service clientele to assure quality, appeal and customer satisfaction.
- Perform a monthly inventory and report on the amount of goods on hand.
- Actively market retail merchandise and 1946 items, with rotating specials and introduction of new items.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by the Assistant Director and Director of College Stores.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Considerable knowledge of food preparation, food storage, refrigeration, sanitation standards, equipment used in food service, inventory and record-keeping methods.
- Considerable skills in human relations, communications and management in dealing with customers, subordinates and superiors.
- Ability to train, supervise and work efficiently with workers in assigning and reviewing work.
- Ability to work well with others.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Ability to estimate food requirements, equipment, and supply needs, and keep accurate records and inventory.
- Attend professional development training to keep up with current food trends.
- Work special events, community and/or outside events and be willing to work extended hours when needed.Â
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
Preferred:
- Associate’s degree in hospitality, business, or marketing.Â
- Two (2) years’ experience in institutional food service or large volume retail establishment.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
 - Variances from regular working hours may be necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of the position.
- Busy working environment with numerous interruptions
SALARY:Â $30,406. annually (this is a 12 month position to be paid over 12 months)
