What You’ll Do

As Recreation Center Assistant Manager, you help keep the Cortez Recreation Center running smoothly, safely, and consistently for the community. You serve as the operational supervisor and step in for the Recreation Center Manager when needed.

Key responsibilities include supervising the Front Desk/Customer Service/Administration team; supporting programming, reservations, and billing; and helping ensure proper operation of facility areas such as the gymnasium, fitness space, walking track, racquetball courts, meeting rooms, locker rooms, and pool operations.

Required qualifications/skills:
- Knowledge of municipal organization and procedures
- Strong communication skills and sound supervisory judgment; at least 1 year of supervisory experience
- Calm, professional public interaction in stressful situations
- Basic accounting understanding; ability to learn recreation database software
- Ability to perform semi-skilled repair/maintenance; strong visual acuity for facility oversight
- Valid Colorado Driver License; obtain First Aid/CPR/AED within 90 days (pool knowledge preferred)

A Typical Shift

You’ll arrive mid-morning, check in on the building and customer areas, and connect with the front counter team about the day’s reservations and questions. Throughout the afternoon and early evening, you’ll move between activity spaces—gym, track, fitness area, courts, meeting rooms, locker rooms, and the pool—keeping a steady pulse on traffic, cleanliness, and guest experience. You’ll handle walk-up concerns with a calm, helpful approach, coordinate with staff when schedules change, and document key updates for continuity. Near close, you’ll help wrap up end-of-day needs so the next day starts organized and ready.
