Job Description:

This recruitment will be used to fill three part-time (a maximum of 20-24 hours per week) Community and Program Assistant positions for the Cultural Resource Center kaku-ixt mana ina haws within Diversity & Cultural Engagement at Oregon State University (OSU).

Department Overview

Diversity & Cultural Engagement (DCE) is a student-centered department dedicated to fostering identity-affirming community, belonging, and leadership development. Through Cultural Resource Centers, educational programming, and collaborative partnerships, DCE supports students from historically underrepresented communities while advancing equity, learning, and connection across campus.

​Position SummaryĀ 

The Cultural Resource Center (CRC) Community and Program AssistantĀ supportsĀ the daily operations, community engagement, and educational programming of Diversity & Cultural Engagement. Student Leaders work in partnership with professional staff and peers toĀ maintainĀ welcoming spaces,Ā assistĀ with programs and outreach, and contribute to student learning and community-building initiatives aligned with DCE’s mission. While professional staffĀ retainĀ responsibility for overall decision-making and accountability, CRC Student Leaders play an active role in implementation, feedback, and student-centered leadership development.Ā 

Position Duties:

Administrative & Center Operation SupportĀ 

  • Staff Cultural Resource Center during scheduled shifts, providing consistent front-desk coverageĀ 

  • Respond to phone, email, and in-person inquiries with professionalism, confidentiality, andĀ appropriate judgmentĀ 

  • Manage office operations including printer support, mail pickup,Ā submitĀ supply requests and inventory tracking, as well as stock andĀ monitorĀ kitchen, office, and event suppliesĀ 

  • Maintain organized digital files and shared drivesĀ 

  • AssistĀ with center reservations, room scheduling, and calendar coordinationĀ 

  • Report facility, technical, or IT issues toĀ appropriate campusĀ partnersĀ 

  • Use and continuouslyĀ learn updates forĀ department software and tools (e.g., Microsoft Teams, Canva, Concur,Ā MazĆ©vo)Ā 

  • Attend and activelyĀ participateĀ in required trainings and weekly student staff meetingsĀ 

  • Follow university and departmental policies, procedures, and workflowsĀ 

  • Facilitate or co-facilitate meetingsĀ and presentationsĀ as assignedĀ 

  • Maintain clean, safe, and organized center spaces, including kitchens and gathering areasĀ 

  • Conduct routine walkthroughs during shifts to tidy spaces and greet guestsĀ 

  • Post weekly events’ flyers, newsletters, and OSU updates in center spacesĀ 

  • Set up and break down rooms for meetings and events, including tables, chairs, and equipmentĀ 

  • Operate basic audio-visual and event equipmentĀ 

  • Complete routine upkeep tasks (e.g., watering plants, resetting spaces)Ā 

  • Safely lift and move furniture or equipment (up to 25–50Ā lbs.) asĀ requiredĀ 

Community Engagement & Student SupportĀ 

  • Welcome visitors and foster a respectful, inclusive, and affirming environmentĀ 

  • Provide orientations and tours for students and campus partnersĀ 

  • Build community through relationship-based peer engagement and supportĀ 

  • Connect students to relevant campus and community resourcesĀ 

  • Participate in outreach efforts such as tabling, presentations, and campus-wide eventsĀ 

  • Represent DCE on committees, working groups, or initiatives asĀ assignedĀ 

  • Collaborate with student organizations, campus departments, and community partnersĀ 

  • Support a healthy workplace culture grounded in accountability, care, and repairĀ 

  • Engage in ongoing reflection, identity development, and learning whileĀ supporting peersĀ aroundĀ identity development, social justice, and belongingĀ 

Event Planning & ProgrammingĀ 

  • Contribute ideas during program brainstorming and planning processesĀ 

  • Support eventĀ logistics, including proposals, scheduling, promotion,Ā and executionĀ 

  • Staff event check-in tables and provide on-site supportĀ 

  • Co-lead orĀ facilitateĀ events, including public speaking and group engagementĀ 

  • Collaborate with student organizations and welcome student-initiated program ideasĀ 

  • Support the development of event and department learning outcomes aligned with DCE goalsĀ 

  • AssistĀ with event assessment and reflection to evaluate program impactĀ 

  • Document programs through photos, videos, or narrative summariesĀ 

  • Follow departmental processes for event planning, promotion, and budgetingĀ 

  • AssistĀ with social media content creation and maintenance as assignedĀ 

Outreach, Education & EngagementĀ Ā 

  • Serve asĀ aĀ student leader on topics related to identity, equity, and social justiceĀ 

  • Share information about systems of oppression and their impact on communities served by DCEĀ 

  • Listen to andĀ uplift theĀ experiencesĀ of students from historically underrepresented communitiesĀ 

  • Support coalition-building and cross-center collaborationĀ 

  • IdentifyĀ key issuesĀ impactingĀ communities served by the CRCs andĀ assistĀ with efforts to minimize or remove negative impactsĀ 

  • Provide support for cultural, religious, and community-based activities and observancesĀ 

  • Respond appropriately to conflict or crisis situations by following training and referring to professional staffĀ 

  • Demonstrate foundational knowledge of the communities served by DCE and a commitment to continued learningĀ

  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study

  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment

  • Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard

    • High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program

    • Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term

    • Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*

    • Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term

    • Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*


*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered ā€œfull-timeā€ by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by theĀ Office of International ServicesĀ (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.

Required Qualifications:

Working Conditions/Schedule:

Work is campus based, Monday through Friday during Center hours, generally 10 AM to 7 PM
Works schedule may include occasional evening and weekend commitments
Student are scheduled average 10 hours per week
