CNC Programmer
JOB DIMENSIONS:
Job Summary:
Under general supervision, formulates programs using CAD/CAM system; plans
computerized manufacturing procedures, designs tooling, and designs and modifies
computerized job production programs; prepares instructions for setup and operation of
CNC equipment; performs test run on new programs; maintains work records; and
performs related duties as assigned.
Reports to:
Machine Shop Manager
Examples of Duties and Responsibilities:
- Formulates programs using CAD/CAM system working from engineering designs and specifications.
- Plans processes and production run set-up by determining optimum cutter paths, speeds and feed rates.
- Establishes types of tooling to be used in machining processes.
- Recommends all tooling needed for manufacturing parts.
- Prepares complete instructions for set-up and operation of CNC machines, including tool types, sizes, grades, and definitions.
- Develop programs.
- Perform test runs on new programs making sure they are of high quality and in safe operating condition.
- Maintains updates and edits all CNC programs.
- Complete and maintain work records.
- Maintain CNC computer equipment.
- Regular punctuality, attendance, and absence reporting in conformance with company policies is essential to the successful performance of this position; and
- Fully comply with company rules, policies, procedures, and safety guidelines to ensure safe and effective operations.
QUALIFICATIONS GUIDELINES:
Any combination equivalent of, but not limited to, the following:
Experience/Training/Education:
A Minimum of 2 to 4 years programming experience using Master Cam, programming CNC
mills and lathes in a production environment 2 to 4 years' experience operating various
types of CNC machines in a production environment is desirable.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Ability to operate computer to access, edit, and maintain company documentation and files, as required for assigned position and/or job at hand;
- Considerable knowledge of CNC machine tool operations.
- Knowledge of safe work practices and techniques.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering designs and specifications.
- Ability to organize and lay out own work.
- Ability to work under general supervision.
- Ability to compile and maintain accurate work records; and
- Ability to communicate and work cooperatively with others.
- Ability to interact with other departments as required.
- Knowledge of trigonometry applications associated with CAD/CAM applications.
- Knowledge of G-Code and Canned Cycles.
- Knowledge and application of correct SFM based on material and machine conditions along with Material Removal Rates
- Knowledge of supporting software and applications associated with CAD/CAM Software.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to bend, lift, move and carry tools and materials weighing up to 25 pounds
- Ability to perform essential functions of the job, as defined; and
