Job Summary:
The Welder Helper will ensure an organized work environment, and adequate maintenance of equipment and materials. You will guarantee welders have tools and materials, such as rods and grinding discs available, and operate welding machines, grinders, hammers, beveling machines, torches and magnetic drills. You will be familiar with various metals such as galvanized, carbon and stainless steel.
To ensure success you will pay attention to minute details, which will save costs associated with errors and consequent reworks. Candidates will be patient and organized, and flexible to adapt to a dynamic work environment.

Duties/Responsibilities:
- Attending on-site safety meetings.
- Maintaining cleanliness of work areas.
- Assisting welders to set up rigs and move them between work areas.
- Ensuring welders have required materials and tools available, such as rods and grinding discs.
- Maintaining stock levels of materials and supplies.
- Loading and unloading trucks.
- Following welders' instructions to adjust welding machine temperatures.
- Employing buffers and grinders to clean welds.
- Maintaining knowledge of various types of metal.
- Operating various tools and types of equipment.
- Identifying safety risks and hazards, and complying with relevant safety procedures and regulations.
- Read and interpret production schedule and blueprint to determine the specifications for a project.
- They monitor fitting and welding processes to ensure workpieces do not shrink or expand as a result of overheating.
- Connect cutting torches to gas cylinders or electric power source.
- Carry out various other tasks assigned by welders as may be required.
- Clean workpieces using chemical solutions to remove impurities such as slag, rust, and grease.
- Willingness and ability to travel to various work sites as needed.

Required Skills/Abilities:
- Thorough understanding of machines and tools used in welding including designs, uses, maintenance and repair.
- Basic understanding of design techniques, principles, and tools necessary for the precise production of technical plans, drawings, models and blueprints.
- Excellent ability to read and listen to assignments given in a variety of forms.
- Basic understanding of mathematics as related to welding assignments.

Education and Experience:
- 6+ months work experience in a similar role.
- Proficient knowledge of all aspects of welding.
- Basic English reading and writing skills.

Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to weld components that are vertical, flat, or overhead.
- Ability to work in a standing position for extended hours.
- Comfortable with working on elevated surfaces.
- Resilient to working in adverse climatic conditions.
- Must have enough manual dexterity and stability as required for precision work.
- Must be able to see details at close range.
- Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds at times.
- Must be able to traverse facilities and machinery by climbing, balancing, lifting, walking, stooping, and carrying materials.
