Job DetailsJob Location: Nespelem - Nespelem, WA 99155Salary Range: $20.34 - $24.86 HourlyCLOSING DATE: August 14th, 2026 POSITION: Cook SALARY: $20.34-$24.34, per hour REPORTS TO: ECE Site Supervisor LOCATION: Head Start, Nespelem, WA  Basic Functions: This is a Non-Exempt position. This position is responsible for the USDA food service program for 10-60 children ages three through five, enrolled in the Head Start center. Overall supervision of the kitchen, including food ordering, records production, safety and sanitation BENEFITS: We have excellent benefits including full Medical, Dental, Vision, Life, 401k with employer contributions, Short-and Long- Term disability for Full-Time employees. Generous leave package includes paid holidays, sick leave, and annual leave for Full-Time and Part-Time employees. QualificationsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education and Training:  Requires a High School Diploma or GED. Must possess and maintain a valid State Driver’s License and be eligible for the Tribes’ Vehicle Insurance. Must successfully clear an extensive Criminal History Background Inquiry that indicates no conviction(s) of crimes involving a child or other serious offenses.  Continued employment is contingent upon clearance on an on-going basis. Must have maintained a substance free lifestyle for the last year (1) and continue maintaining during employment, and be willing to sign and adhere to the Tribes Substance Abuse Policy and the Head Start’s Healthy Lifestyle Policy in addition to submitting to program testing procedures. Must possess, or be able to obtain a First Aid/CPR Certification within thirty (30) days of employment. Must possess, or be able to obtain a Food Handler’s permit, TB Test, and Health Clearance within ten (10) days of employment. Requires references or application will be considered incomplete.  Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Requires education/work experience that demonstrates the ability to make mathematical computations accurately and keep routine written records. Requires work experience reflecting the ability to cook and order supplies for large groups of people. Requires work experience reflecting the ability to plan meals that are nutritious to children according to Head Start Food Service Criteria, performance standards, and USDA-CCFP and SPI requirements. Requires experience reflecting the ability to supervise cooking operations and kitchen staff. Requires demonstrated experience with monitoring and auditing reports for compliance review. Requires the ability to provide nutrition education to staff, students, and parents on a continual basis. Requires to possess the ability to incorporate cultural foods into the Food Service Program. Requires to be able to perform various janitorial duties to ensure a safe and sanitary environment       Note: Pursuant to Tribal Policy, if this position is safety sensitive it is subject to pre-employment drug testing.
