Ascend Elements is looking forward to adding an Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Manager to our excellent Operations team. This position will lead and manage the EHS needs at our Covington, Georgia facility while also supporting programs at the corporate level. This position will have the chance to shape and lead a 1st-class EHS team in a rapidly growing company.


Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Develop and revise policies and procedures for Environmental, Health and Safety compliance.
  • Lead Process Safety Management (PSM) activities on site and future endeavors at Ascend facilities.
  • Participate in Hazard and Operability (HAZOP) studies.
  • Lead Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) and HAZOP.
  • Perform Incident Investigations and facilitate Root Cause Analysis (RCAs).
  • Support site Operational staff.
  • Audit environmental, health, and safety programs and systems.
  • Support compliance with all federal, state, and local EH&S regulations.
  • Provide support regarding routine environmental compliance sampling requirements (e.g., stormwater, air, wastewater).
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement and safe workplace habits.
  • Assist with coordination of Safety Committee Meetings, lead meetings, when needed.
  • Support air, water, wastewater, and hazardous waste permitting and compliance.
  • Assist in the development and updating safety standards, instructions, codes, and formalize them into company documented practices, as required.
  • Assist in the development of facility specific EHS procedures for safe work practices and equipment operation.
  • Audit the implementation of inspection policies and procedures, and a schedule of routine inspections.
  • Verify proper safety protocols are in place and being followed.
  • Manage the implementation, training, and updating of the Life Saving Rules program.
  • Coordinate with EHS leads at other facilities to maintain consistency between sites.
  • Ability to travel to other Ascend Elements sites to establish safety programs and practices.


Education and Other Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and 10+ years of EHS experience
  • Experience with facilitating RCAs
  • Experience with facilitating HAZOP and PHAs
  • Experience implementing EHS systems
  • Certified Safety Professional preferred
  • Previous experience in managing a team preferred. Strong leadership skills needed
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Thorough knowledge of EHS and OSHA laws and regulations
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
  • Ability to speak and write English
  • Capable of wearing task specific personal protective equipment which may include dust mask, respirator, safety shoes, gloves, safety glasses, and ear protection.
  • Capable of meeting OSHA standards for manual lifting guidelines: < 50lbs
  • While performing the duties of this job it is required to stand, walk, and use hands to operate objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands or arms; climb, balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch when necessary for job activity.
  • Ability to stand and/or walk for extended periods (minimum of eight hours).
  • Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions and temperatures.
