JOB EMPHASIS AND PURPOSE

The Facilities Mechanic is expected to maintain all aspects of the building including lighting, plumbing, electrical, emergency systems, HVAC & departmental needs.

GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Facilities Maintenance

Plumbing:

  • Perform repairs on toilets, faucets, water heaters, and general plumbing systems throughout the facility.
  • Install fixtures and piping as needed.

Exterior Lighting:

  • Repair and install exterior lighting systems to ensure proper functionality and safety.

Air Compressors:

  • Conduct daily inspections and maintenance of air compressors to ensure optimal performance.

RTU Monitoring:

  • Monitor Roof Top Units (RTUs) in the SBR and CIP areas to ensure proper functioning 

Parking Lot Maintenance:

  • Maintain the parking lot, including snow and ice removal, and ensure safety and cleanliness.

Fire Safety Systems:

  • Clean and inspect PIV valves and sprinkler systems to maintain fire safety standards.

General Facility Repairs:

  • Perform repairs on doorways, floors, and engage in light construction tasks as needed.

Lighting Systems:

  • Repair and replace facility lighting systems, including inspections and replacement of emergency and exit lighting.

General Maintenance:

  • Support overall facility maintenance tasks, including electrical, plumbing, and HVAC repairs.
  • Assist in the operation and monitoring of Building Automation Systems (BAS) to ensure efficient HVAC and lighting performance.
  • Respond to service requests promptly to minimize disruptions to facility operations.
  • Maintain detailed records of all maintenance and repair activities, including logs for refrigeration and boiler systems.
  • Ensure all facility systems operate efficiently and comply with safety and regulatory standards.
  • Maintain machinery in Dye-House, Wax & Tab, and CIP.
  • Supervise & maintain preventative maintenance schedule in CIP.

HVAC:

  • Maintain and repair the air wash system, including cleaning, preventive maintenance, and emergency repairs.
  • Perform daily chemical tests on chiller water, maintain cooling towers, and complete daily checklists during operation.
  • Conduct daily boiler maintenance, including checklists and water testing.
  • Coordinate meetings with external contractors for HVAC-related projects.

Boilers:

  • Operate, maintain, and repair steam and hot water boilers used for heating and industrial processes.
  • Conduct routine inspections of boilers for proper operation, safety compliance, and efficiency.
  • Diagnose and repair issues with burners, pressure controls, valves, and pumps.
  • Perform water quality tests and manage chemical treatments to prevent scaling, corrosion, and other potential issues affecting boiler performance.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education / Experience

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Trade school / electrical training preferred.
  • 5 years of electrical and maintenance experience in an industrial setting

License / Credentials / Certifications

  • Valid driver’s license
  • Forklift license
  • Lock out certification.
  • OSHA basic 3 certification (Electrical, machine guarding, PPE)
  • EPA 608 HVAC license (required or must obtain in first year)

Skills / Specialized Knowledge / Abilities

  • Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office
  • Electrical knowledge up to and including 480 VAC.
  • Knowledge of electrical test equipment & proper use of PPE
  • Plumbing with various materials (copper, PVC, steel pipe, etc.)
  • Chemical SDS labeling knowledge & proper handling of chemicals.
  • Comfortable working at heights on mezzanines as well as on lifts
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to operate & maintain snow removal equipment
  • Ability to work independently with little or no supervision.
  • Welding (MIG, SMAW), fabricating, machining, and metalworking.
  • Light construction skills in floor repair, concrete, & carpentry.
