Lake Superior Consulting is seeking a Civil Engineer IV to join our growing team!
Â
In this role, you will lead the design and permitting of complex civil projects supporting both energy infrastructure and traditional land development. You’ll have the opportunity to work on a diverse mix of projects—from oil and gas facilities and pipeline infrastructure to municipal, commercial, and industrial developments.
This is a technical role for an engineer who enjoys ownership of projects, mentoring emerging engineers, and collaborating across disciplines to deliver practical, high-quality engineering solutions. Our team values strong technical expertise, creative problem solving, and engineers who want to continue growing their impact.

What You’ll Do
As a key member of the civil engineering team, you will lead design and technical execution across multiple project types while helping shape the development of junior engineers.
Key responsibilities include:
• Lead civil design for complex site development projects including grading, drainage, utilities, and infrastructure layout for energy facilities, pipeline sites, and commercial or industrial developments.
• Develop erosion and sediment control plans (ESCPs) and construction-phase stormwater strategies that protect the environment while enabling efficient project delivery.
• Design post-construction stormwater management systems including detention/retention basins, bioswales, infiltration systems, and other low-impact development solutions in compliance with NPDES and local regulations.
• Design roadways and access infrastructure, including grading, pavement design, and safety considerations to support both industrial and municipal uses.
• Lead and coordinate federal, state, and local permitting efforts, including environmental permitting, zoning approvals, and utility coordination.
• Develop water supply and onsite wastewater solutions for remote or rural sites, including hydraulic analysis and system layout.
• Partner with multidisciplinary teams including engineers and project managers to deliver integrated project solutions.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers and technical staff, supporting their development in design, permitting, and project execution.
• Perform site evaluations, feasibility studies, and cost estimates to support project planning and client decision-making.
• Ensure designs meet applicable engineering standards, safety requirements, and sustainability considerations.
• Utilize industry-standard tools including AutoCAD Civil 3D, HEC-RAS, HydroCAD, and SWMM to support analysis, modeling, and design development.
• Engage with clients and regulatory agencies through technical discussions, presentations, and project coordination.
Â
What Makes This Role Unique
• Work on technically challenging projects across multiple industries, including energy infrastructure and traditional land development.
• Opportunity to lead projects and mentor engineers while continuing to grow your own technical expertise.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary engineering team solving real-world infrastructure challenges.
What You Bring
• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from an ABET-accredited university
• Minimum of 5 years of civil engineering experience in site development, land development, or infrastructure design
• Professional Engineer (PE) license
• Demonstrated experience delivering civil engineering projects from concept through design and permitting
• Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D or similar civil design software
• Understanding of 2D and 3D drafting and design workflows
• Strong communication skills and the ability to clearly present technical concepts to clients and stakeholders
• Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities while maintaining high quality work
