Pharmacist

Parttime (20 hours/week)
 

Pharmacist Specialists ensure the safe, effective, and cost‑efficient use of medications. They support both centralized and decentralized medication‑use systems and play an active role in pharmacy operations, direct patient care, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Responsibilities include optimizing medication therapy, preventing adverse drug events, educating patients and healthcare providers, and contributing to quality and regulatory initiatives.

Responsibilities

Clinical & Operational Responsibilities

  • Interpret and evaluate physician orders and prescriptions to prepare, calculate, and dispense appropriate medications for inpatient and outpatient care in compliance with the Pennsylvania Pharmacy Practice Act, federal regulations, and other applicable standards.
  • Sustain the formulary by minimizing non‑formulary procurements, applying therapeutic interchange protocols, and promoting rational medication selection.
  • Review and maintain patient medication records, screening for allergies, interactions, duplications, and other safety concerns while entering or verifying orders.
  • Identify, document, and report suspected adverse drug reactions promptly and accurately.
  • Utilize pharmacy systems and technology effectively in the delivery of pharmaceutical care.
  • Prepare and dispense sterile IV admixtures using proper aseptic technique in an approved sterile compounding environment.
  • Fill prescription orders in accordance with all state and federal regulations.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Communicate with physicians and nurses to clarify incomplete, unclear, or illegible medication orders.
  • Serve as a resource and liaison for healthcare teams, departments, and external groups.
  • Provide drug information, education, and training to healthcare professionals, pharmacy students, and pharmacy residents.

Leadership & Quality Improvement

  • Organize daily operational duties and assist in supervising pharmacy technicians, aides, student interns, and other support staff.
  • Support and/or lead quality and regulatory compliance initiatives to enhance medication‑use processes and pharmacy practice.
  • Participate in data monitoring, process analysis, intervention implementation, and outcomes evaluation to improve clinical pharmacy servic


Education

  • Graduate of an ACPE‑accredited College of Pharmacy
  • Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD)
     

Licensure

  • Current, active Pharmacist license in the state of practice (required)


     

Experience

  • Entry‑level; no previous experience required
  • Prior pharmacist experience preferred
