Position Overview

As an Atmospheric Corrosion Inspector, you will conduct regulated inspections on natural gas meter sets and above-ground piping systems to identify, document, and mitigate atmospheric corrosion. Your work plays a vital role in maintaining system integrity and preventing safety hazards.


What You’ll Do

  • Perform Regulated Atmospheric Corrosion Inspections
    • Conduct thorough visual and physical examinations of gas meter sets exposed to the atmosphere.
    • Inspect corrosion-prone areas such as:
      • Soil-to-air interfaces
      • Pipe supports
      • Splash zones
      • Disbonded coatings
      • Exposed metallic components
    • Assess coating integrity and identify signs of surface rust, pitting, or advanced corrosion.
  • Perform Remediation When Needed

    • Conduct surface-level remediation at Heath’s/client’s discretion, including:
      • Wire brushing
      • Cleaning
      • Priming
      • Painting using approved materials
      • Application of protective coatings
  • Use Industry-Approved Tools & Technology

    • Utilize handheld equipment and specialized tools for corrosion assessment.
    • Use CGI/sniffer equipment for leak detection when required (including Minnesota inside meter protocols).
    • Complete all documentation in Survey123 / Service Suit, entering:
      • GPS location
      • Technician ID
      • Timestamp
      • Leak classification
      • Required photo angles
      • Notes on anomalies or corrosion
  • Identify and Report Safety Issues

    • Immediately contact the Call Center if gas odor or a hazardous condition is detected and remain on-site until relieved.
  • Customer Service & Access Management

    • Request entry for inside meter inspections (where applicable).
    • Communicate professionally with property owners to gain access, explain the inspection purpose, and ensure a positive experience.


Work Outdoors & Stay Active

This role is ideal for individuals who prefer being active rather than sitting behind a desk. You will:

  • Walk approximately 4–7 miles per day
  • Bend, kneel, and lift up to 25 pounds
  • Work in a variety of weather conditions
  • Remain on your feet for extended periods


Operate Specialized Equipment

You will use industry-leading gas detection technology to identify potential leaks. Heath provides comprehensive paid training and certifications to ensure you are fully prepared and confident in the field.


Job Requirements

Required

• High school diploma or GED

• Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record

• Ability to pass a DOT drug screen and background check

• Ability to stand, walk, bend, and stoop on varying terrain, and to lift heavy items

• Ability to walk 4–7 miles per day in all weather conditions

• Strong reliability and accountability

• Proficient using technology (smartphone, tablet)

• Ability to use simple hand tools

• Ability to read and understand utility maps

• Works well within a group as well as individually


Preferred — But Not Required

• Customer service experience

• No industry experience necessary — we value work ethic, dependability, and a safety-first mindset

Vehicle Program — Personal Vehicle Use

At Heath, we support our team members who are on the move. Employees in this role participate in Heath’s Personally Owned Vehicle (POV) Program, which provides meaningful financial support for local travel.


What the POV Program Provides


Weekly Vehicle Allowance — Approximately $185 per Week

Paid every week alongside your regular paycheck (approximately $9,600 annually). Non-taxable for this position.


$300 Monthly Fuel Card

A Company fuel card for qualifying business fuel purchases. Your card is issued on your first day and activates automatically about three weeks after you start — no paperwork required.


Telematics Device Provided at No Cost

Heath provides a small, non-camera GPS device that installs in your vehicle to verify business mileage.


Program Qualifications

To participate in the POV Program, employees will need to meet a few standard qualifications:


  • Active auto insurance — minimum $100,000/$300,000/$100,000 coverage or $300,000 combined single limit
  • Proof of insurance provided before your first day and at each policy renewal
  • A vehicle that meets Heath’s standards — 4-door, backup camera, hands-free capability, and professional appearance
  • Willingness to have a Heath-provided telematics device installed in your vehicle
