The incumbent must have significant and specialized knowledge and experience in industrial related electrical, automation, robotics (Fanuc), PLCs (Allen Bradley especially), programming, vision systems, etc. in a manufacturing environment.  A high school diploma or equivalent is required and electrical/automation/networking/robotics education beyond high school is preferred (Associates or Bachelors).  The incumbent must possess strong technical and problems solving skills.  Must be able to take initiative, communicate at all levels, be able to work within a team environment, take ownership of projects and have good floor presence.

 

 

  1. PURPOSE: Briefly state the job’s overall purpose, emphasizing the general function or duty for which this position is responsible.

 

Provides on-shift, hands-on engineering, maintenance and technical support/troubleshooting to process operations with specific focus and accountability for electrical and automation equipment (robotics, vision system, PLCs, VFD, etc.) to ensure reliability and the optimum and safe use of facilities, equipment and resources to meet customer requirements and plant objectives

  1. RESPONSIBILITIES: Briefly describe the day-to-day role of this position (list no more than 6 to 10 tasks).

  1. The Engineering/Automation Technician will report to the shift Maintenance Supervisor and will work with a team of maintenance personnel, engineers and skilled trades individuals to support all plant automation and process equipment to ensure maximum up-time, efficiencies and other key performance metrics to optimize the manufacturing process.
  2. Troubleshooting and programming PLCs, robotics, HMIs and servos.
  3. Partnering with maintenance and engineering to increase efficiencies and minimize downtime.
  4. Fixing and debugging equipment in a timely manner, including VFDs, PLC, robotics and servo systems.
  5. Implements process modifications and engineering projects to improve operational effectiveness, product quality, equipment reliability, cost to operate and product/material scrap.
  6. Continuing to advance skillsets through on-the-job training and formal training.
  7. Identify and facilitate continuous improvement initiatives.
  8. Other duties as assigned by management.
  9. Using established principles and methods, investigate engineering and process problems by obtaining and analyzing pertinent data and developing recommended solutions.

Required to make decisions relating to operational priorities regarding automation/electrical components to support shift/plant needs.  Must utilize sound judgment and collaborate with other technical resources, managers and vendors as needed.

  • WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to temperature extremes, as well as moving mechanical parts, electricity and vibration. The noise level in the work environment can be loud. The employee must wear appropriate personal safety protection equipment. This equipment will vary based upon the work location and type of work being performed but often will include safety glasses and sometimes may include protective clothing.
  • Actively on the manufacturing floor approximately 70% of time and building physical layout requires extensive walking.

  • This is a full-time position on a shift.

 

  • PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Define the physical requirements (e.g. ability to lift 25 pounds repetitively for an 8/12-hour shift, ability to stand for an 8/12 hours shift, etc.).

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear.  This position is active and may require standing, walking, bending, and occasionally kneeling, stooping, and crouching. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move items up to 25 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
