IT Systems Administrator II

Work Schedule: Full-time
Location: In-Office. This position is located in the United States.Â

POSITION SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
The IT Systems Administrator II is responsible for the design, administration, security, and optimization of the organization’s infrastructure, cloud platforms, enterprise systems, and Microsoft-based environment. This role independently manages assigned systems, provides advanced technical support, leads small to medium infrastructure initiatives, and ensures the reliability, performance, and security of core systems while aligning technology operations with business and compliance requirements. The IT Systems Administrator II supports modern infrastructure initiatives including automation, identity and access management, and AI-enabled technologies, while maintaining strong governance, security controls, and operational excellence across the IT environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Infrastructure & Systems Administration
- Design, implement, administer, and maintain enterprise infrastructure including servers, operating systems, and virtualization environments
- Manage on-premises and cloud-integrated systems in a hybrid environment, including Microsoft 365 and Azure-based services
- Monitor system health, performance, capacity, and availability to ensure optimal operation and minimal downtime
- Manage backup, recovery, and disaster recovery processes to ensure data integrity and business continuity
- Independently maintain assigned infrastructure platforms and enterprise services, including lifecycle, capacity, and performance management
Microsoft & Identity Ecosystem
- Administer Microsoft 365 services including Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, and OneDrive
- Manage Active Directory and Entra ID (Azure AD) including identity lifecycle, group policy, and access controls
- Implement and maintain identity and access management best practices including least privilege and role-based access
- Support hybrid identity and authentication models across cloud and on-prem systems
- Troubleshoot and resolve advanced identity, authentication, and access-related issues
Security, Compliance & Risk Management
- Implement and enforce IT security best practices across infrastructure, systems, and endpoints
- Perform threat management, vulnerability identification, remediation coordination, and risk mitigation activities
- Monitor, investigate, document, and respond to security events and incidents, including potential or confirmed cybersecurity breaches, unauthorized access, and malicious activity, following established incident response procedures
- Participate in cybersecurity investigations and support containment, recovery, evidence collection, and documentation activities
- Support compliance with applicable standards and frameworks (e.g., GLBA, NIST, audit requirements)
- Manage patching, system hardening, endpoint protection, and configuration baselines
- Maintain logging, monitoring, and audit readiness across systems and platforms
- Assist with audit preparation, evidence gathering, and remediation activities
AI, Automation & Modern Technology
- Support infrastructure and platform readiness for approved AI technologies including Microsoft Copilot and related tools
- Assist in enabling secure integration of AI services within the Microsoft and enterprise environment
- Develop and support automation, scripting, and process improvements to enhance operational efficiency
- Support system integration, orchestration, and modern infrastructure initiatives
- Identify and implement opportunities to automate repetitive administrative and operational processes
Application & Platform Support
- Administer and support enterprise applications and backend systems ensuring integration, performance, and availability
- Support database systems, maintenance processes, and performance optimization
- Troubleshoot complex system, application, and infrastructure issues to maintain operational continuity
- Coordinate with vendors and business stakeholders to resolve application and system-related issues
Project & Operational Execution
- Lead small to medium infrastructure projects, system implementations, upgrades, and migrations
- Develop implementation plans, testing procedures, documentation, and rollback strategies for assigned projects
- Coordinate assigned project activities with vendors, business units, and IT team members
- Participate in larger infrastructure initiatives and migrations under the direction of senior IT leadership
- Maintain technical documentation, standards, procedures, and system configurations
- Execute tasks and initiatives as directed by IT leadership aligned to business priorities
Technical Guidance & General IT Support
- Serve as a technical escalation resource for Help Desk staff and other IT team members
- Provide technical guidance and knowledge transfer across IT operations as needed
- Participate in technology evaluations and provide technical recommendations within established standards
- Provide advanced support and guidance across IT operations as needed
- Perform all other duties and tasks assigned

Job Requirements
Broad Knowledge & Experience
Proven experience as a Systems Administrator or similar role. Demonstrated experience independently administering enterprise infrastructure, Microsoft 365, Active Directory, Entra ID, virtualization platforms, and cloud-integrated technologies.
Above Average Skills
Strong knowledge of system architecture principles and best practices. Strong troubleshooting, project coordination, documentation, and communication skills. Ability to independently identify, analyze, and resolve complex technical issues.
Demonstrated Ability
Experience with PowerShell scripting and automation. Experience administering Microsoft 365 and Entra ID environments. Familiarity with server administration in Windows and Linux/Unix environments. Experience with Nutanix or similar virtualization technology. Experience with backup, disaster recovery, endpoint protection, vulnerability remediation, system hardening, and configuration management. Ability to lead small to medium technical projects and coordinate work with internal stakeholders and vendors.

Work Environment
Physical Demands
Moving heavy computer equipment and working under desks, Working in server rooms, network rooms, and telecommunications closets. Regular attendance is required, whether in office or remotely based.
