Move fast. Think big. Make an impact that can change lives.
At Thermo Fisher Scientific’s St. Louis site, we move with urgency because what we do matters. Every day, our teams are helping turn breakthrough science into biologic medicines for patients around the world—and behind every batch, every decision and every challenge we solve is a patient waiting for what we make.
This is a fast-paced, high-energy environment where science, technology and talented people come together to do extraordinary work. Whether you’re in manufacturing, quality, engineering, the lab or a support function, you are part of the mission. Your expertise matters. Your ideas matter. Your ability to move quickly, solve problems and deliver matters.
Why This Role Matters
We’re looking for an experienced Senior Metrology Technician (2nd Shift) who thrives on solving complex technical problems, improving equipment reliability, and helping others grow their technical capability.
Reliable instrumentation is critical to safe, compliant, and efficient operations. As a Senior Metrology Technician, your expertise will directly influence equipment performance, manufacturing continuity, regulatory compliance, and the technical capability of the broader team.
In this role, you’ll serve as a senior technical expert for instrumentation, calibration, measurement systems, and equipment reliability supporting GMP manufacturing, laboratory, utility, and facility operations. You’ll tackle some of our most challenging calibration and troubleshooting work, lead the technical response to equipment failures and investigations, and help shape how we approach calibration and reliability for the long term.
This is an ideal opportunity for an accomplished technician who enjoys being hands-on while also influencing technical standards, mentoring others, and partnering across Engineering, Manufacturing, Facilities, Automation, and Quality.
This position is 2nd Shift and includes a 10% shift differential.
What You’ll Do
- Lead complex calibration, troubleshooting, adjustment, and repair activities.
- Diagnose electrical, pneumatic, instrumentation, process-control, and equipment-interface issues.
- Troubleshoot pressure, temperature, flow, analytical instrumentation, gas detection, control valves, transmitters, and instrument communications.
- Interpret P&IDs, schematics, loop drawings, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
- Partner with Engineering, Manufacturing, Facilities, Automation, and Quality to resolve issues.
- Identify calibration risks, equipment trends, and opportunities to improve procedures.
- Mentor Metrology Technician I and II employees on procedures, repairs, and coordinating monthly work.
- Evaluate instrumentation lifecycle, replacement, obsolescence, and standardization needs.
What You’ll Bring
- High school diploma or GED required; related Associate degree preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in instrumentation, metrology, calibration, controls, or equivalent military PMEL experience.
- GMP-regulated manufacturing experience preferred.
- Advanced troubleshooting knowledge across electrical, pneumatic, mechanical, and process instrumentation systems.
- Ability to read P&IDs, schematics, loop drawings, and technical documentation.
- Experience mentoring or training technical employees.
- SAP CMMS or comparable system experience preferred.
- Strong communication, documentation, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Well-developed organizational skills and ability to manage priorities independently.
This is a hands-on technical leadership role with no direct people-management responsibility. This position is 2nd Shift and includes a 10% shift differential.
