Come be part of the Heartwood team and help to enrich the lives and touch the hearts of older adults.  Schedule: Part time, union position. Six shifts every two weeks. Hours: 10:30am - 7:00pm including every other weekend. Pay: $18.48 - $23.51 depending on experience. Benefits: Health, dental, vision and company paid life insurance. Paid time off, 401K retirement plan with company contribution, employee assistance program, and premium pay for working holidays. The Cook/Chef is responsible for creating high quality meals and an exceptional dining experience for residents by preparing attractive, nutritious, and palatable meals consistent with regulations and established policies, procedures, and best practices. Essential Duties: Prepare attractive, nutritious and palatable meals for residents/customers following established menus, regulations, established policies, procedures and best practices. Assist with meal service to residents. Convey customer feedback and make recommendations to supervisor regarding the quality and satisfaction with meals.  Assist with menu planning to accommodate seasonal foods, holiday and special events as assigned. Maintain accurate meal documentation records per established procedures. Ensure and assist with cleaning and sanitizing equipment and work areas. Help create an environment of teamwork.  Maintain a work environment for employees that is conducive to high productivity and morale. Maintain effective communication systems with employees.  As a member of the Nutrition & Culinary Services team, actively participate in department and facility activities, meetings and processes. Effectively collaborate with department and facility staff to promote the residents’ total well-being. Maintain effective communication systems with all customers. Monitor the performance of assigned staff under your supervision as designated at the site.  Assist in the orientation and training of staff as assigned.  Coach and assist staff to achieve desired outcomes and individual development. Ensure safe food handling, labeling and storage.  Use and support the quality process to meet customer needs. Maintain monitoring systems and processes to ensure compliance with regulations and established best practices. Demonstrate the ability to safely and effectively use all needed equipment.   Participate in service and cleanup of culinary services including dining rooms, kitchen, deli, care center and catered events. Create a positive dining experience for customers that promotes their independence, choice and overall well-being.  Encourage resident participation in the dining program, and meal activities. Take initiative; use imagination and creativity in problem solving; broaden perspective beyond your own environment; recommend solutions; handle challenges, changes and job pressures competently and positively; demonstrate patience, flexibility and adaptability. Organize and execute responsibilities using established priorities; manage time appropriately - work efficiently; demonstrate self-improvement and desire to learn and grow. QualificationsPosition Qualifications: High School Diploma or equivalent education. Minnesota Food Service certification preferred. Knowledge of state and federal food-handling regulations. Must possess knowledge of food service operations. Ability to communicate effectively in a variety of settings and with a variety of people at different organizational levels. Ability to handle confidential information discreetly and appropriately. Ability to adapt resources to meet the needs of the situation. Exercises good judgment, flexibility, creativity, and insight to problem solving. Demonstrated compatibility with Heartwood’s mission and operating philosophies. Demonstrated ability to read, write, speak and understand the English language to communicate with all customers. Located in Crosby, MN, Heartwood offers a range of senior living options, including independent living, assisted living, memory care, and a skilled nursing facility.
