Position Summary

  • The Occupational Health & Safety Representative is responsible to administer occupational health and safety programs in compliance with federal, state and local regulations and established policies. Provide assistance to the Occupational Health & Safety Manager in the day to day operations of the department. In addition, due to the cross-functional sharing of knowledge that is required, this role requires flexibility to learn other areas within the organizational structure.

Principal Accountabilities

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, human resources, healthcare administration or related field.

Licenses and Certification

  • PHR certification or OSHA certification preferred

Experience and Skills

  • Technical: One (1) year of work experience in a related field.
  • Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety and other legal protections afforded by Workers’ Compensation and other applicable laws
  • Excellent attention to details, problem solving and organizational skills
  • Interpersonal/human relations skills
  • Verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

Physical Activities

  • Intermittent hand manipulation required
  • Intermittent lifting and carrying of 50 lbs.

Role Specific Responsibilities

  • Communicates with employees regarding their needs for Workers’ Compensation.
  • Ensures that employees are aware of their responsibilities to provide documentation including gathering required paperwork.
  • Maintains complete and accurate records of return to work, fit for duty and light duty accommodation requests in accordance with specified legal requirements and documentation of best practices.
  • Preserves confidentiality of employee medical documentation and files.
  • Maintains knowledge of all applicable Workers’ Compensation and accommodation laws including and state and local laws.
  • Perform customer service functions by answering employees’ requests and questions.
  • Serves as a resource to managers, physicians and staff.
  • Assist employees with the incident reporting process and appropriate follow up actions as needed.
  • Assist OHS staff with maintenance of documentation regarding all occupational incidents and exposures as required by SIH policy, the state and federal regulation.
  • Data entry and communication of information to appropriate external partners involved in occupational cases.
  • Documenting lost and restricted workdays accurately in case documentation.
  • Compile monthly injury statistics for Metrics, EOC, KPI. Complete regulatory documentation and programs.
  • Provide assistance and research support to manager and employees on Workers’ Compensation and Occupational Health and Safety.
  • Schedules meetings by reserving facilities.
  • Create new employee leave files, scan papers and documents into appropriate leave software and files.
  • Assist with or prepare correspondence.
  • Work with Leave & Absence Representative in exchange of case information for FML, ADA, LOA and other areas of collaboration within the department.
  • Coordinates Annual Vaccine and Immunization Programs, including but not limited to TB testing, Influenza Immunization, Color Blind Testing, Fit Testing.
  • Assists with outbreak and safety investigations. Collaborates with Safety Specialists and Infection Prevention Staff.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Keeps current with industry trends and other pertinent information on each benefit program assigned.

Compensation (Commensurate with experience):

$20.59 - $31.91
