Job DetailsJob Location: Brunswick, ME 04011Information from Landing YMCA Leadership: Rock Steady Boxing Coach – Parkinson’s Program Landing YMCA – Brunswick, Maine The Landing YMCA is seeking a compassionate, energetic individual to help lead our Rock Steady Boxing for Parkinson's program for people living with Parkinson’s disease. Schedule: Tuesdays & Thursdays 1:30–3:00 PM POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Wellness Director, the Group Exercise Instructor is responsible for conducting safe, effective, and enjoyable exercise classes by providing leadership, up-to-date quality instruction and high energy motivation. The Group Exercise Instructor will work with people of all ages, and lead group fitness classes to motivate members to improve their overall health and wellbeing. As an instructor, you are passionate about health and wellness and enjoy empowering people to achieve their goals. You are energetic, self-motivated and a natural teacher dedicated to helping others. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Plans and instructs fitness and/or related classes, following YMCA standards and guidelines. Sets up and takes down class equipment. Reports equipment problems. Attends staff meetings and approved trainings as required. Maintain current certifications. Observes and discusses individual progress with participants. Develops rapport with members and responds to questions related to fitness. Ensures safe and effective workouts. Responds to, and reports, accidents and incidents. Discusses and promotes all YMCA programs. Motivates members to commit to long term participation. Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergency procedures. Plans and implements a program in accordance with the goals and policies of the YMCA. Coordinates activities which are culturally relevant and developmentally appropriate. Any additional duties as assigned. Effect on End Result: Group Exercise Instructor will demonstrate excellence in ability and maintain a caring attitude at all times to provide quality programs and service while promoting the Bath Area Family YMCA mission. The popularity and size of the classes and number of persons who attain their individual goals will measure achievable results. WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS: This position is required to be performed on the YMCA premises. Regular interaction with members and staff. Supervision received from the Wellness Director. May also take direction from senior staff. QualificationsRequired Qualifications Minimum age of 18 years. Current Adult CPR/AED and First Aid certification (or the ability to obtain prior to beginning employment). Rock Steady Boxing Coach Certification is required. The Landing YMCA will provide training and certification for the selected candidate. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to motivate, encourage, and safely adapt activities for participants with varying abilities. Experience in group fitness, personal training, healthcare, rehabilitation, or working with older adults is preferred, but not required   Experience Experience in group fitness, personal training, healthcare, rehabilitation, coaching, or working with older adults is preferred, but not required.
