Job Description:

L3Harris Technologies is seeking a Facilities Engineer to support our Orange, VA site — a key center of excellence for solid rocket motor propulsion and energetics in the aerospace and defense market. This role plays a critical part in enabling safe, efficient, and compliant facilities operations while supporting site growth and capital investment activities.

You’ll be the primary liaison between operations, maintenance teams, and external partners (designers, general contractors, and A&E firms) to ensure facilities projects are scoped, coordinated, and executed successfully.

Be part of a mission-critical site supporting defense and aerospace technologies. This role offers a unique blend of facilities, project coordination, and cross-disciplinary teamwork — a great fit for professionals who enjoy seeing projects through from concept to completion.

Essential Functions:

This is a hands-on, project-oriented role with emphasis on coordination, communication, and execution:

Facilities Project & Program Support

  • Coordinate with operations and maintenance to capture requirements and translate into project scopes and deliverables.
  • Work with external designers/A&E teams to ensure requirements are reflected in drawings and specifications
  • Support contractor selection and management — RFI responses, submittals, change orders, and quality inspections.
  • Monitor project schedules, budgets, and deliverables; conduct status meetings and provide updates across stakeholders.
  • Prepare cost estimates, scopes of work, and capital expenditure requests.
  • Ensure work complies with applicable codes, regulations, and standards throughout design and construction.
  • Ability to obtain a US security clearance.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Act as the point of contact between facilities, operations, maintenance, and general contractors.
  • Help prioritize maintenance and capital work based on risk, schedule, and operational needs.

Documentation & Compliance

  • Maintain accurate project files, as-built information, scopes, and documentation.
  • Support compliance and safety reviews in coordination with internal teams.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, construction management or facilities management and minimum 4 years of prior relevant facilities and project experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 8 years of prior related experience.

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Strong project coordination skills, including cost estimating, schedules, and contractor oversight.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams and external partners (contractors, designers, A&E).
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office tools (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience managing small to mid-scale construction or facilities projects.
  • Familiarity with facility infrastructure systems (HVAC, electrical, controls, mechanical)
  • Familiarity with CAD (AutoCAD or similar) for reviewing/design coordination.
  • Project Management experience or certification (e.g., PMI/PMP).
  • Experience in industrial, manufacturing, or highly regulated environments is a plus.
