Summary of Functions

Researches funding opportunities and prepares grant proposals that provide financial support for the activities of the Kalispel Tribal Government, including Camas Path and other Tribal programs and projects. Provides grant/proposal related support services to staff.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Researches, identifies, develops and responds to public and private grant funding opportunities.
  • Prepares and submits grant proposals and budgets within funding source guidelines.
  • Develops and maintains a list of potential funding resources to include a grant cycle calendar.
  • Consults with directors and managers to cultivate goals and objectives; to identify specific needs, to assess the availability of grant match requirements & to provide evaluation criteria.
  • Using research tools, identifies funding and program opportunities to match Tribal or departmental priorities.
  • Meets with stakeholders to ensure that all departments affected by a proposal are informed and aware of responsibilities related to grant implementation.
  • Provides grant related support to departmental and financial staff.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

 

Education

  • Requires a Bachelor’s degree in a field with extensive writing and research requirements applicable to grantsmanship.

 

Experience

 

  • Requires a minimum of 2 years of grant writing and research experience working for tribal, state or local government(s), including the health, education or social services fields.

 

Skills

 

  • Ability to conduct research and to write and produce clear and concise proposals and grant apps.
  • Ability to read, craft, understand and implement English language documents; including grant applications and guidelines, narrative descriptions and grant budget documents.
  • A professional knowledge of Microsoft office suite and internet software and ability to utilize same to produce grants, reports and other correspondence is required.
  • Demonstrated skill in effective communication, both verbal and written, with strong presentation  skills is necessary.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with staff members across all tribal departments.
  • Must be able to work discreetly and maintain confidentiality of proprietary information.
  • Must possess a good understanding of the needs and vision of the Kalispel Tribe.
  • Must be flexible in work scheduling, including the willingness to occasionally work evenings or weekends as assigned.
  • Must qualify for a Tribal Work permit, including successfully passing Tribal drug testing and a background investigation.

 

Other Requirements

  • Valid WA or ID State Driver’s license.

 

Physical Demands

  • This position requires the ability to bend, stoop, lift, carry, and move items weighting up to 40 pounds.
  • Significant portions of the job require extended sedentary periods; constant work with computers, including extended periods of keyboarding; and repetitive motion of hands and wrists.
  • This position requires frequent local travel and occasional out-of-town travel. 
  • This position requires the ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.
  • This position requires occasional work to be performed outside general business hours.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to tobacco smoke, moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles.  The worker is frequently subject to inside environmental conditions, which provide protection from weather conditions, but not necessarily from temperature changes, and is occasionally subject to outside environmental conditions and to wet and/or humid conditions.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
