Holmes Motors | Multi-State Automotive Group
Full-Time | On-Site | Leadership Position
This Isn’t a Keep-the-Books Role.
Holmes Motors is looking for an experienced Automotive Controller who can do more than report the numbers.
We need someone who understands what happens behind those numbers — inventory, margins, cash flow, receivables, dealership operations, accountability, and the decisions that ultimately move the business forward.
Holmes Motors is a fast-growing, family-owned Lease Here Pay Here automotive group serving customers across multiple states. We provide reliable transportation and flexible financing options to customers who may not fit the traditional credit model.
As we continue to grow, we’re looking for a Controller who can help strengthen the financial foundation underneath that growth.
And for the right person, this role has room to become much more.
Your Mission
As Controller, you’ll work closely with our CFO, ownership, dealership leadership, and accounting team to ensure our financial operation is accurate, disciplined, efficient, and ready to scale.
You’ll own the accounting function — but we’re also looking for someone willing to question outdated processes, identify problems before they become expensive, and build better systems when better systems are needed.
We don’t need someone who simply tells us what happened last month.  We want someone who can help us understand why it happened, what it means, and what we should do next.
What You’ll Own
- Lead full-cycle accounting and financial reporting across multiple dealership locations
- Ensure timely, accurate month-end and year-end financial closes
- Oversee account reconciliations, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, and general ledger activity
- Maintain strong financial controls and accounting procedures across the organization
- Partner with dealership General Managers on budgets, forecasts, expenses, margins, and operating performance
- Oversee automotive inventory accounting and related reconciliations
- Monitor cash flow and provide leadership with a clear picture of the company’s financial position
- Identify variances, trends, risks, and opportunities — and communicate what they mean to leadership
- Develop and improve reporting that gives management useful, actionable information
- Lead, coach, and develop members of the accounting team
- Evaluate current accounting workflows and eliminate unnecessary manual processes
- Help lead system implementations, integrations, and process improvements
- Work with vendors and internal departments to improve accuracy, efficiency, and accountability
- Support the CFO and executive team with financial analysis related to growth, expansion, and major business decisions
- Ensure accounting practices remain compliant with applicable internal and external requirements

What We’re Looking For
Automotive accounting experience is required.
This is important. Dealership accounting has its own rhythm, terminology, controls, inventory challenges, and operational realities. We need someone who already understands that world.
Our ideal candidate will bring:
- Proven experience as a Controller, Assistant Controller, or senior automotive accounting leader
- Strong dealership accounting experience, preferably supporting multiple rooftops or locations
- Thorough understanding of automotive inventory accounting, reconciliations, receivables, payables, payroll, and financial statements
- Experience working with dealership management systems and DMS-integrated accounting platforms such as Dealertrack, Frazer, or comparable systems
- Strong financial analysis, budgeting, and forecasting capabilities
- Experience leading and developing an accounting team
- The ability to communicate financial information clearly to operators and executives — not just accountants
- Strong attention to detail without losing sight of the larger business
- The judgment and discretion required when handling confidential financial information
The Person Who Will Thrive Here
- You’re probably a strong fit if you look at a broken process and immediately start thinking about how to fix it.
- You ask questions.
- You follow numbers all the way back to their source.
- You’re comfortable holding people — and yourself — accountable.
- You can move between detailed accounting work and big-picture business conversations without missing a beat.
- And when something doesn’t make sense, you don’t simply work around it forever.
- You improve it.
