Job Summary:

The Senior Computer Systems/Software Engineer is responsible for the design, development, integration, and engineering of complex computer systems that combine hardware and software solutions supporting Navy weapons systems and missile programs. This role provides advanced technical expertise in computer hardware engineering, software design, systems integration, and requirements management. The Senior Computer Systems/Software Engineer supports the development and implementation of real-time systems and ensures system performance, reliability, and interoperability within mission-critical Naval environments. The position also supports missile system interfaces, real-time operating systems, and integration activities associated with Navy weapon systems programs.

Essential Duties: 

  • Design, develop, and engineer complex computer systems that integrate both hardware and software components.
  • Perform software design, coding, compilation, and debugging for mission-critical systems.
  • Manage and develop computer system and software requirements to support system performance and functionality.
  • Support system integration activities involving computer systems, software components, and hardware interfaces.
  • Utilize systems engineering tools and methodologies to support system design, analysis, and development.
  • Develop and maintain real-time software applications, including Real-Time VxWorks Symmetric Multi-Processing (SMP) software.
  • Support development and integration of missile internal interfaces and related control systems.
  • Provide engineering support for Navy weapons systems programs including Standard Missile (SM) platforms and related technologies.
  • Analyze and resolve system performance, integration, and interoperability issues.
  • Prepare and maintain technical documentation, system design artifacts, and engineering reports.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to support system design, development, testing, and deployment activities.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering, scientific, or technical discipline.

Experience:

  • Experience with Naval Surface Warfare Center / DoD Test and Evaluation support preferred.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of professional technical experience in computer systems engineering or software engineering.
  • At least five (5) years of specialized experience performing:
    • Computer hardware engineering
    • Software design, coding, and code compilation
    • Computer or software requirements management
    • Computer systems or software integration
    • Use of systems engineering software tools
  • Demonstrated experience engineering complex systems with integrated hardware and software solutions.
  • Experience related to weapons systems or Navy programs.
  • Experience working with HTML, C/C++, Unix, and Linux environments.
  • Specialized experience with development of Real-Time VxWorks Symmetric Multi-Processing (SMP) software.
  • Experience supporting missile systems including the Standard Missile (SM)-2, SM-3, SM-6, and Evolved Sea Sparrow Missile (ESSM) platforms.

Knowledge, Skill and Abilities:

  • Advanced knowledge of computer systems engineering, software engineering, and systems integration principles.
  • Expertise in hardware and software development within complex integrated systems.
  • Proficiency in programming languages and development environments including C/C++, HTML, Unix, and Linux.
  • Knowledge of real-time operating systems, particularly VxWorks SMP environments.
  • Experience with systems engineering methodologies and engineering tools used for system development and integration.
  • Knowledge of Naval weapons systems and missile system architectures.
  • Familiarity with Standard Missile internal interfaces, including:
    • SM-3 Kill Warhead Data Link (KWDL)
    • SM-3 Missile Test Data (MTD)
    • SM-2/SM-6 initialization message digital interfaces
    • Vertical Launch System (VLS) integration
  • Ability to analyze complex engineering problems and develop technical solutions.
  • Strong technical documentation and reporting skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams in complex program environments.

Salary: The projected salary range for this position is $110,000-$175,000 and is based on experience and contractual requirements. However, this is not a guarantee of salary.
