Job Description:

JOB SUMMARY: The Director of Safety is a pivotal role within the company as they are responsible for the safety programs as well as safety evaluations of the company's entire fleet. We are seeking a highly experienced and motivated Director of Safety to lead our safety department. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, implementing, and managing the company's safety programs to ensure the highest standards of safety for our drivers, employees, and fleet operations

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leading the Safety Department, providing strategic direction and oversight.
  • Developing and implementing comprehensive safety policies, procedures, and training programs.
  • Oversight of Safety Supervisors who directly influence the safety behavior, driving performance and knowledge base of your fleet
  • Ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and local safety regulations, including DOT, OSHA, and FMCSA standards
  • Analyzing safety performance metrics and implementing corrective actions as needed.

Incident Management:

  • Overseeing investigations of accidents, incidents, and near-misses.
  • Developing and implementing corrective action plans to prevent recurrence.
  • Managing the accident review process and communicate findings to relevant stakeholders.

Training & Development:

  • Developing and delivering safety training programs for drivers and employees.
  • Ensuring all personnel are trained in safety procedures and regulatory compliance.
  • Conducting regular safety meetings and workshops.

Risk Management:

  • Identifying potential safety hazards and implement risk mitigation strategies.

Collaboration & Communication:

  • Working closely with other departments to integrate safety into all aspects of operations.
  • Communicating safety goals, initiatives, and performance to executive management.
  • Serving as the primary point of contact for external safety agencies and organizations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Transportation Management, or a related field
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in a safety management role
  • Proven experience in managing compliance with DOT, OSHA, and FMCSA regulations.
  • In-depth working knowledge of all applicable safety rules and regulations
  • Strong leadership and management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to develop and implement effective safety programs and initiatives.
  • Proficiency in safety management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Highly organized and communicative - must be able to interact effectively at all levels, both internally and externally
  • Ability to perform in an environment with ambiguous situations, rapidly changing priorities and competing deadlines

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • 10 years of experience in a safety management role, preferably within the transportation industry.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or similar certification preferred.
  • Proven record of making well-informed decisions in both routine and emergency situations
  • High degree of initiative and independent execution. You can thrive as a team player but are also driven by autonomy
