Job Title: Retail Shift Manager I 

Purpose 

The Retail Shift Manager I supports retail operations by ensuring consistent execution of operational standards during assigned shifts. This role supervises retail associates, maintains operational readiness, and delivers exceptional customer experiences through adherence to company policies, brand standards, and performance expectations. 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Execute opening, daily, and closing procedures in compliance with company policies and operational checklists. 

  • Supervise retail associates during assigned shifts, ensuring proper task execution and adherence to operational standards. 

  • Maintain store cleanliness, merchandise presentation, and visual appeal throughout the shift. 

  • Monitor equipment functionality and report maintenance needs promptly. 

  • Assign daily tasks to team members and ensure adequate coverage during shifts. 

  • Ensure compliance with labor regulations, including mandated breaks and meal periods. 

  • Serve as Manager on Duty (MOD) during assigned shifts, addressing escalated issues and ensuring operational readiness. 

  • Operate POS systems, process transactions, and maintain cash handling compliance and security protocols. 

  • Monitor inventory levels, assist with receiving merchandise, and report discrepancies or stock shortages to management. 

  • Ensure compliance with visual merchandising standards, planogram execution, seasonal resets, and promotional displays. 

  • Deliver exceptional customer service, resolve customer concerns using sound judgment, and motivate team members to meet service standards. 

  • Train associates on brand standards, operational procedures, and customer engagement techniques. 

  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local safety and health standards; train staff on safety protocols. 

Qualifications:  

Education & Experience 

  • Minimum 2 years of retail and/or customer service experience. 

  • At least 6 months of supervisory or lead experience in retail, specialty retail, or customer service environment. 

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required; equivalent experience accepted. 

Technical Skills 

  • Proficiency in POS systems and retail management software. 

  • Basic math skills and cash handling experience. 

  • Knowledge of visual merchandising principles, planogram execution, and inventory management. 

Competencies 

  • Strong leadership and team supervision skills. 

  • Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities. 

  • Ability to maintain operational standards and deliver exceptional customer experiences. 

  • Attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced environment. 

Schedule & Reporting 

  • Reports to the Store Manager or Retail Multi-Unit Manager. 

  • Non-Exempt position under FLSA. 

  • Requires flexibility to work varied shifts, including opening, peak periods, and closing.
