Assists the GIS Analyst in maintaining the Elections Department’s GIS system including developing and utilizing GIS applications that support the business needs of the Department. Maintains related software, hardware and workstations; performs data collection; trains staff and other departments.

Responsibilities

1. Assists in the development and maintenance of the Election Department’s GIS applications. Creates and maintains GIS databases, maps and reports utilized to conduct elections.


2. Maintains hardware, software, and workstations; manages software installation and usage to ensure compliance with software licensing requirements; and maintains server, to include file control and documentation, scheduled backups, operating system and security, and inventory.


3. Prepares and produces GIS maps, reports, presentations, instructions and training materials.


4. Trains staff members in the use of GIS technologies.


5. Maintains inventory of necessary expendable supplies to ensure functioning of GIS components.


6. Maintains street addresses, district boundaries, and precinct lines, and other spatial data.


7. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education, Experience and Training:

Education and experience equivalent to an Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical field of study. Five (5) years of work related experience or seventy-five (75) hours from an accredited college or university in a job related field of study or a combination of the two.


Special Requirements/Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Skilled in the use of standard software applications, including GIS related software. Ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing, and establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, departments and the general public. Knowledge and skills in map making and cartography, both manual and computer aided. Knowledge and skills in field data collection and/or surveying.

Knowledge and skills in writing scripts and building automated processes. 


Physical/Environmental Requirements:

Standard office environment.
