The AI Portfolio Strategy Lead enables enterprise investment decisions across Diamondback Energy’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) portfolio. This role leads opportunity intake, portfolio assessment, prioritization, sequencing, and portfolio performance management to ensure AI resources are focused on the highest-value opportunities. Serving as the central connection among business stakeholders, Product Owners, AI leadership, and delivery teams, the Portfolio Lead provides the analysis, transparency, and decision support needed to balance value, strategic alignment, feasibility, risk, capacity, and dependencies across the AI portfolio.

Job Responsibilities:

Include but are not limited to

  • Lead enterprise intake and assessment of AI opportunities against strategic alignment, expected value, business readiness, data readiness, technical feasibility, risk, and resource requirements, applying a consistent evidence standard that distinguishes assumptions from validated business, user, value, data, and technical evidence.
  • Maintain the integrated enterprise view of the AI portfolio, including roadmap, pipeline, initiative status, investment decisions, and movement through the AI lifecycle.
  • Lead portfolio planning and investment decision support; develop data-driven recommendations on priorities, sequencing, portfolio tradeoffs, capacity allocation, and whether initiatives advance, pause, pivot, or stop.
  • Operationalize the enterprise AI investment and lifecycle governance model, equipping decision forums with the information, criteria, and recommendations to decide on time, and removing processes, capacity, dependency, and decision bottlenecks that slow movement from opportunity to value realization.
  • Partner with Product Owners, business sponsors, AI Engineering & Delivery, the IT PMO, and the AI Value & Economics Lead to maintain portfolio-level alignment and accountability, and to confirm each initiative has a defined business problem, expected outcomes, success measures, value hypothesis, accountable business owner, and value-realization approach before significant investment.
  • Monitor portfolio performance across value, adoption, progress, capacity, dependencies, risk, and resource utilization; identify underperforming or constrained investments and recommend corrective action, rebalancing, acceleration, or discontinuation.
  • Provide executives and the enterprise with concise portfolio insights and decision recommendations covering investment performance, value delivered, capacity constraints, dependencies, risks, and emerging opportunities.
  • Identify overlapping investments, reusable capabilities, common business patterns, and portfolio gaps; scale proven AI solutions across functions rather than allowing duplicative builds.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, information systems, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in portfolio strategy, product portfolio management, technology strategy, investment planning, management consulting, or related functions overseeing technology, data, analytics, or AI investments.
  • Experience with portfolio governance, intake, prioritization, stage gates, and executive decision forums.
  • Experience using quantitative and qualitative evidence to make investment, prioritization, sequencing, and resource-allocation recommendations.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills, including executive reporting and performance measurement.
  • Ability to influence senior stakeholders and coordinate cross-functional teams without direct authority.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated ability to challenge assumptions, synthesize incomplete information, and facilitate decisions among senior business and technology leaders.
  • Experience managing AI, advanced analytics, or digital transformation portfolios in a large enterprise.
  • Experience in oil and gas, energy, manufacturing, or another capital-intensive industry.
