Position Summary

The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) is an integral member of the CityDoc Urgent Care clinical team, supporting the delivery of high-quality, acute medical care in a fast-paced urgent care setting. The position emphasizes patient health maintenance, effective team collaboration, and excellent patient service. This role interacts closely with clinical providers, front desk staff, and other departments.

Primary Job Duties:

  1. Prepare patients for examinations and procedures.

  2. Document the reason for visit and relevant patient history.

  3. Record vital signs, height, weight, and other key health indicators.

  4. Assist providers with patient examinations and procedures.

  5. Administer medications under provider orders.

  6. Update charts with allergies, medication usage, and immunization history.

  7. Complete laboratory slips and necessary documentation.

  8. Administer immunizations as ordered.

  9. Perform phlebotomy and specimen collection.

  10. Educate and counsel patients as needed based on their visit.

  11. Clean and sterilize medical instruments and equipment.

  12. Perform x-ray positioning per provider instructions (if certified).

  13. Screen and triage patients upon arrival.

  14. Communicate lab results via phone at the provider’s request.

  15. Manage inventory: order supplies, medications, and narcotics; stock exam rooms.

  16. Identify opportunities for improvement and assist with implementing quality initiatives.

  17. Answer patient inquiries regarding health, medications, lab results, or follow-ups, as appropriate and within scope.

  18. Initiate standing orders after triage, such as pregnancy, strep, or flu tests.

  19. Supervise Medical Assistants and lab assistants in the absence of an RN (LVNs only).

  20. Assist in preparing reports to fulfill state and federal requirements.

  21. Participate in Quality Improvement activities.

  22. Support additional clinical duties as assigned.

  23. Demonstrate alignment with CityDoc’s mission and core values.

  24. Provide inclusive, respectful care regardless of patient background or status.

Qualifications


Qualifications, Education & Experience:

  • LVN: Graduate of an approved LVN program; holds current licensure.

  • CMA: Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program with certification.

  • NCT: Must possess a current NCT (Non-Certified Technician) certification.

  • Previous clinical experience in family medicine, urgent care, or outpatient care preferred.

  • Practical knowledge in clinical nursing practices and family planning desirable.

  • Must be able to follow all policies and procedures and maintain patient confidentiality.

  • Sensitivity to the healthcare and social service needs of diverse patient populations.

  • Bilingual English/Spanish is preferred but not required.
