Position Summary

Brown & Root is seeking an experienced Commercial Kitchen Equipment & Refrigeration Technician to support maintenance operations at the Texas Instruments North and South campuses.

This position is responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, maintaining, and installing commercial kitchen, café, beverage, and refrigeration equipment. The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical, electrical, and refrigeration troubleshooting skills and be capable of independently diagnosing equipment problems and completing repairs safely and efficiently.

The technician will work in an active facility environment and interact regularly with Brown & Root team members, Texas Instruments personnel, vendors, and other site personnel.

Key Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, install, and maintain commercial kitchen, cafĂ©, beverage, and refrigeration equipment.
  • Service equipment including:
    • Ice machines
    • Refrigerators and freezers
    • Coffee and beverage machines
    • Water fountains and dispensers
    • Pizza ovens
    • Kettles
    • Steamers
    • Other commercial food-service and cafĂ© equipment
  • Perform preventive maintenance to improve equipment reliability and extend service life.
  • Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, refrigeration, plumbing, and control-related equipment problems.
  • Diagnose equipment failures and determine the appropriate repair method.
  • Identify required replacement parts, materials, and supplies.
  • Provide repair information needed for estimates and quotations.
  • Order or coordinate replacement parts as required.
  • Read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, technical manuals, equipment specifications, and manufacturer documentation.
  • Use electrical meters, refrigeration gauges, hand tools, power tools, and specialized diagnostic equipment.
  • Perform equipment installations and replacements as assigned.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of service calls, repairs, parts used, equipment condition, and follow-up requirements.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, materials, and work areas in a clean and safe condition.
  • Communicate professionally with customers, site personnel, supervision, and other members of the maintenance team.
  • Follow all Brown & Root, Texas Instruments, OSHA, and site-specific safety requirements.
  • Wear and properly maintain all required personal protective equipment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum three (3) years of documented field experience in commercial kitchen equipment repair, commercial appliance repair, refrigeration, HVAC, or a closely related field.
  • EPA Section 608 Universal Certification required.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently diagnose and repair commercial equipment.
  • Working knowledge of refrigeration systems, electrical systems and controls, motors, mechanical components, and commercial food-service equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, technical manuals, and equipment documentation.
  • Ability to properly use electrical meters, refrigeration gauges, and diagnostic equipment.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to plan and perform assigned work with limited supervision.
  • Ability to accurately document completed work, parts used, and equipment conditions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with customers, supervision, and coworkers.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations associated with the trade.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Previous commercial kitchen, cafĂ©, restaurant, or institutional food-service equipment experience.
  • Experience servicing multiple types of commercial equipment, including ice machines, coffee equipment, ovens, steamers, kettles, refrigerators, and freezers.
  • Manufacturer or factory training on commercial food-service equipment.
  • Additional HVAC, refrigeration, electrical, or plumbing experience.
  • Experience working in a large industrial, manufacturing, semiconductor, corporate campus, or similar facility environment.

Journeyman Expectations

The Journeyman Commercial Kitchen Equipment & Refrigeration Technician is expected to:

  • Perform assigned work safely and independently with limited supervision.
  • Diagnose equipment problems and determine appropriate corrective action.
  • Properly plan and execute repairs and installations.
  • Read and understand technical instructions and manufacturer documentation.
  • Complete work efficiently and in accordance with applicable standards.
    • Assist less-experienced technicians with troubleshooting and technical guidance when needed.

    Lead Responsibilities – When Assigned

    When serving in a Leadman or Lead Technician capacity, the employee may also:

    • Provide leadership, technical instruction, and guidance to other craft personnel.
    • Assist the Foreman or Supervisor with work planning and coordination.
    • Help assign and coordinate daily work activities.
    • Monitor work for safety, quality, and completion.
    • Provide troubleshooting assistance and technical support to other technicians.
