Summary: The Texas Democratic Party (TDP) is seeking a dynamic and experienced fundraising leader to serve as our Development Director. This is a senior-level role responsible for designing, implementing, and scaling an ambitious, multi-channel fundraising operation to power year-round organizing and ensure long-term sustainability for Democrats in Texas. The Development Director will lead a team of staff and consultants in building and sustaining a robust financial support program, cultivating major donors, growing our small-dollar program, executing fundraising events, and supporting compliance. This position plays a critical role in building the strategic financial infrastructure necessary to flip the Texas House, win down-ballot races, and elect Democrats across the board.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement an integrated short- and long-term fundraising plan in collaboration with the Executive Director, senior leadership, and the Finance Committee.
  • Lead the major donor program, including identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of high-level prospects.
  • Manage and grow the grassroots fundraising program, including digital giving (in coordination with digital staff), recurring donors, and direct mail.
  • Lead the development and execution of high-impact fundraising events across Texas and virtually, including signature donor briefings and house parties.
  • Engage staff and the State Committee by creating an organizational culture of fundraising.
  • Serve as a resource for Democratic County Parties, elected officials, and candidates on fundraising strategy and reporting.
  • Raise funds through consistent personal call time and ensure preparation and oversight of call time for the Executive Director, Party Chair, and other principal fundraisers; manage all related staff preparation, follow-up, and donor tracking.
  • Oversee the maintenance of accurate and comprehensive donor records using NGP VAN and fundraising CRMs.
  • Collaborate with the Compliance Team and legal counsel to ensure that all fundraising activities comply with federal and state campaign finance laws.
  • Supervise the finance and development team, including staff, interns, and consultants.
  • Provide fundraising training and support to Democratic county parties, candidates, and elected officials where appropriate.
  • Partner closely with stakeholders, including labor unions, progressive partners, institutional donors, and national allies (e.g., DSCC, DNC, DCCC) to increase financial support of Democratic candidates.
  • Create and present regular reports and analysis for the Executive Director, Chair, and Finance Committee.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum 4+ years of professional experience in political, nonprofit, or university fundraising.
  • Demonstrated continued success in managing high-level donor relationships and raising seven-figure revenue goals.
  • Experience managing donor databases and compliance processes, preferably with NGP VAN and ActBlue.
  • Track record of organizing successful fundraising events and call time operations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong project management skills and ability to execute on deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of Texas political landscape and Democratic donor networks.
