Overview
Poly-America, L.P., leading plastics manufacturer, is currently seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our engineering team. Poly-America produces several lines of polyethylene products including high quality trash bags, construction and agricultural sheeting on blown-film extrusion lines. Poly-America is also the most technologically advanced and largest polyethylene recycler and compounder in the world.

Responsibilities
Mechanical Design Engineer at Poly-America will have to have an understanding of the fabrication, welding and machining processes that are needed to deliver a completed component or machine assembly. The process involves creating complex 3D SolidWorks models to ensure design correctness. Â Generate 2D drawings to have the components manufactured. Communicate with vendors to ensure parts are fabricated or machined to meet the design specifications and are delivered on time to meet the project deadlines. Coordinate the assembly, installation and testing ensuring the desired outcome is attained.

The Engineer will also be responsible for modifying or upgrading existing equipment or components of the equipment to support both Maintenance and Manufacturing groups. In this role the Engineer will need to document the current equipment, understand the problems that are occurring, use critical thinking to overcome technical problems, recommend possible solutions based on a combination of data analysis and troubleshooting.Â

The Design Engineer will also support the R&D group, working with different teams to prototype, test designs, develop and upgrade the components to ensure successes of a project

All Design projects require documentation, this can include 3D models, drawings creation with BOM’s, supporting documentation and quoting for manufacture, testing, modifications if needed and once the solution is finalized, approved drawings for achieving

Our engineers work in both solo and team environments with different disciplines depending on the scope and nature of the project. They regularly draw on their professionalism, communication skills, and technical expertise to instruct local maintenance personnel or contractors on relevant theory and practical applications. The role may involve additional responsibilities and opportunities as they become necessary and/or are assigned by management.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess:
- Bachelors’ degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Expert knowledge of CAD (AutoCAD and SolidWorks)
- Previous experience (5-8years) in mechanical design, fabrication and machine shop experience
- Ability to design for manufacturing and assembly of parts to ensure components can be produced efficiently,
- An understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerance fits
- Experience with blown–film and extrusion equipment
- A strong desire to follow projects and processes through conceptualization, design, assembly and implementation
- Attention to detail in the drawings and documentation provided to outside vendors to manufacture components needed
- The ability to self-motivate and complete independent assignments or components of group projects on a deadline.
- The aptitude and desire necessary to be a good student of Poly-America processes, equipment, and procedures.
