JOB SUMMARY
Guest Services is a fast paced, multi-faceted team responsible for a variety of guest experiences, public events, revenue collections at parking, ticketing/admissions, and other general operation needs at the Dallas Zoo. The appearance of the Zoo grounds and buildings, including restrooms, contributes greatly to the guest experience.
 
This position is a team-lead, park aesthetics-focused role that coordinates and performs multi-skilled custodial work on the grounds, buildings and other areas of the Dallas Zoo including: trash cleanup, recycling, and event setup/strike, while maintaining high-quality cleanliness standards. This position reports directly to the Park Services Manager and their duties will be performed both indoors and outdoors.
 
 
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
 
• Ensure that guests receive outstanding service by providing a friendly environment, which includes greeting and acknowledging every customer, maintaining outstanding standards, solid knowledge and all other aspects of customer service.
• Coordinate daily activities of custodial team members and mentor staff; activities to include event set-up and take-down and daily custodial tasks.
• Ensure park pathways, sidewalks and roadways are clean and litter free and assist Park Services Manager in weekly park audits. 
• Conduct on-the-job training for new custodial staff
• Perform shift work to ensure restrooms, indoor areas, and meetings spaces are clean and welcoming to guests and staff.
• Correctly and efficiently clean assigned areas including windows, toilets, sinks, and floors.
• Perform custodial and light maintenance tasks without immediate supervision.
• Correctly operate a variety of vehicles and heavy equipment including but not limited to forklifts, leaf blowers/vacuums, power washers, and hand/power tools for desired park aesthetics results.
• Provide Zoo and animal information including show times, keeper talks, way finding directions, etc. 
• Assist guests and manage crowds for overall safety and pleasant experiences for guests.
• Maintain an orderly appearance in work and storage areas. 
• Develop safe work habits, observe DZM safety guidelines, and contribute to safety of self and others.
• Observe DZM animal care and guest service guidelines when performing duties.
• Contribute to broader departmental objectives and perform other duties as assigned.
 
QUALIFICATIONS
 
• Must have 1 year customer or guest service experience.
• Must have 1 year janitorial, grounds keeping or custodial type experience.
• Must receive DZM internal forklift certification within six months of hire date.
• Must have excellent customer service, communication and interpersonal skills. 
• Must be able to communicate effectively with customers and team members. 
• Must be flexible, reliable and a self-motivated team player. 
• Must have a high school diploma or GED. 
• Must be able to operate all necessary equipment to perform the job.
• Must be able to follow oral and written instructions.
• Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
• Must be able to walk, stand for extended time, sit, kneel, stoop, crawl, twist, reach above head, pull bend, climb stairs and ladders, and lift/carry up to 75lbs. 
• Must be able to work weekends, holidays and some evenings.
• Must be able to actively work outdoors in inclement weather.
• Must be able to work as part of a team and independently to achieve positive results.
• Ability to demonstrate a welcoming and cooperative demeanor toward guests, staff, and volunteers.
• Must have a valid drivers license to operate Zoo vehicles.
