ABOUT BESTOW

Life insurance is one of the world's most important products. It's also one of the hardest to build, distribute, and modernize. Bestow exists to change that.

Bestow is a leading vertical technology platform serving some of the largest and most innovative life insurers. Our platform unifies the fragmented, legacy value chain, enabling carriers to launch products in weeks instead of years. Carriers choose us to scale and operate at unprecedented speed, powered by AI and automation.

Bestow isn't selling policies. We're building the infrastructure that helps an entire industry move faster, reach more people, and deliver on its promise.

Backed by leading investors (Goldman Sachs, Hedosophia, NEA, Valar, 8VC) and trusted by major carriers, Bestow is powered by a team that moves with precision, purpose, and heart. If you want to help reimagine a centuries-old industry with lasting impact, join us.

Bestow offers flexible remote/hybrid work, meaningful benefits, equity, and substantial growth opportunities.

ABOUT THE TEAM

The engineering team is responsible for all technology powering Bestow and the Bestow Platform. We support our employees, consumers, and enterprise partners by delivering reliable, secure, and scalable systems. Our functional teams include product engineering, infrastructure, IT, data and analytics, mar-tech, and program management. We work closely with product management and design to build the right solutions and continuously improve our platform.

This role reports to the Manager of Engineering and is open to remote employees in the U.S. (48 contiguous states only.)

WHAT YOU'LL DO

As a Platform Engineer II, you will automate cloud resources, implement developer tooling, and make changes to our products to increase their manageability. You should be able to define the technical design and implement work independently. You should have prior experience with systems administration and cloud service automation.

Bestow engineers are great teammates. You will spend most of your time with the Platform Engineers working on projects laying the cloud's foundation. You will also work directly with Product Engineering teams on their specific needs and build tooling and automation.

Do you want to build products to reinvent a centuries-old industry? If so, we'd love to hear from you.

Cloud Infrastructure Projects

We believe that all cloud infrastructure should be treated as code.

  • Modifications go through code review and are executed via CI tools.

  • Automate cloud infrastructure via tools like Terraform, CloudFormation, or Pulumi.

  • Administer our software platform, which includes Kubernetes, Pulumi Cloud, ArgoCD, CircleCI, and PostgreSQL.

  • Contribute to projects in languages such as TypeScript, Python, Go, or Bash.

Ensure the Reliability of Our Software

Great software is more than product features. It simultaneously considers non-functional concerns like security, maintainability, and extensibility. You are responsible for ensuring:

  • Collaborate with product engineers to identify observability/configurability gaps and make code-level improvements.

  • Creating the tooling to improve the developer experience, enabling them to deliver business value faster and more effectively.

  • Manage runbooks for incident response; Measure operational performance and make gradual improvements.

  • Participate in a primary on-call weekly rotation to maintain system reliability, respond to platform incidents, and perform blameless root-cause analysis.

WHO YOU ARE

  • Proficiency with GCP or other cloud platforms.

  • Experience with IaC tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or Pulumi.

  • Experience utilizing AI-powered coding assistants or agents, such as Claude Code, to enhance productivity and streamline development workflows.

  • Familiarity with Typescript, Go, or similar

  • Bonus if familiar with using observability platforms such as New Relic or Datadog.

  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.

  • Strong communication and collaboration abilities.
