Position Summary

The Project Designer – Architecture Studio is responsible for architectural design as directed by Design Directors or VP of Architectural Design.  You will work on project teams delivering assigned projects within a multidisciplinary firm that includes interior design, procurement, and project management. Reporting to the Vice President of Architectural Design this role

 

As a Project Designer – Architecture Studio, you will be supporting the Director of Design in the design and development of project documents and working with team members for large scale residential, mixed-use & hospitality projects.  Additional tasks will have you mentoring junior staff and engaging you in further knowledge transfer of design principles, processes, building codes, and methods of construction.

 

Potential candidates must have strong technical skills with an eye towards design, strong verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to support projects working both individually and in teams.

Key Responsibilities – Project & Team Leadership

  • Work independently to contribute to the full range of architectural services on small to medium sized projects or to oversee smaller portions of large projects as part of a design team.
  • Refine and further develop design concepts as directed by Directors
  • Contribute to the planning and design concepts for complex projects
  • Oversee design work of junior staff to ensure integration and cohesion within the design team
  • Provide oversight and mentorship to junior staff.
  • Present design solutions to client representatives and/or design review committees
  • Art direct the development of visualizations for presentations
  • Coordinate drawings with other design disciplines
  • Find technical solutions to deliver the design through documentation and detailing while preserving design intent
  • Relate building design concepts to building codes, zoning ordinances and other external criteria
  • Prepare, develop, edit and coordinate specifications with drawings to meeting project requirements.
  • Evaluate, select and/or approve materials and products
  • Work seamlessly between 2D and 3D drawing environments to effectively communicate ideas.
  • Support senior staff members based on project needs.

Project Delivery & Technical Oversight

  • Contribute to the architectural design from concept through construction administration.
  • Ensure design intent is maintained across all deliverables throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Coordinate closely with consultants and internal disciplines.
  • Review drawings and specifications for quality, completeness, and code compliance.
  • Resolve design and technical challenges efficiently.

Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration

  • Work closely with Interior Design, Procurement, and Project Management teams.
  • Ensure architectural design documentation aligns with interior design, procurement strategies, and construction phasing.
  • Support integrated project delivery through proactive coordination.

Client & Stakeholder Engagement

  • At the direction of Senior Leadership, participate in client meetings, presentations, and design reviews.
  • Communicate project progress, risks, and solutions clearly and professionally.

Support of Parent Company (Ashford)

  • Support architectural delivery for Ashford-led PIPs, renovations, and select ground-up developments.
  • Coordinate with Ashford stakeholders and third-party consultants as required.
  • Ensure alignment with brand standards, budgets, and schedules.

Leadership & Firmwide Contributions

  • Uphold architectural standards and best practices established by the firm.
  • Contribute to Design standards, QA/QC, and process improvements.
  • Represent the architecture team with professionalism internally and externally.
Qualifications

Required Skills

  • Strong 3D Modeling skills (SketchUp, Rhino, and Revit)
  • Proficiency in rendering software (Enscape, and Lumion)
  • Proficiency with CAD/BIM documentation software (AutoCAD and Revit)
  • Advanced knowledge of BIM or Parametric Design is an asset (Revit, Dynamo and Grasshopper)
  • Proficiency in MS Office, including Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Proficiency in Adobe Create Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign)
  • Ability to sketch and develop design ideas graphically (Diagramming by hand or digitally)
  • Ability to discuss and communicate ideas with verbal and graphic clarity
  • Ability to effectively manage time and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work in a collaborative team environment
  • Fast learner who can adapt to a variety of project requirements
