JOB SUMMARY
Works under minimal supervision to provide responsible technical assistance in performance of assignments requiring basic knowledge of techniques and practices related to particular field of science.Â
The Nam Laboratory seeks a motivated Research Technician II / Research Assistant I to support studies in RNA biology, RNA chemical modifications, and mechanistic biochemistry in the broader field of gene regulation and cancer biology. The successful candidate will contribute to ongoing projects through independent execution of molecular biology and biochemical experiments while supporting overall laboratory operations.
This role is well-suited for individuals seeking rigorous research experience in an academic biomedical setting.
Responsibilities:
- Perform molecular biology techniques (DNA/RNA purification, PCR, cloning, gel electrophoresis)
- Assist with protein expression and purification
- Conduct RNA biochemistry experiments, including in vitro transcription and enzymatic assays
- Prepare reagents and maintain organized laboratory records
- Assist with data analysis and documentation
- Maintain laboratory inventory and ensure compliance with safety regulations
The ideal candidate will have:
- Bachelor’s degree in biochemistry, molecular biology, chemistry, or related field
- 1–2 years of relevant laboratory experience (academic or industry) preferred.
- Demonstrated proficiency in basic molecular biology techniques
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively

JOB DUTIES
- Performs routine scientific and medical research work in science area such as biology, chemistry, physics, or other related scientific field.
- Assembles and/or operates various laboratory equipment and apparatus.
- Records research data in accordance with prescribed procedures, discussing results with supervisor.
- Assists in collection of data for project reports.
- Reads literature and confers with supervisor concerning implementation of new procedures.
- May plan for, and provide working supervision to, work of laboratory personnel of lower grade engaged in limited phase of research project.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
