Safety Officer

Position Overview:

Under the general supervision of a Campus Safety Supervisor, this position is a member of a team of officers responsible for providing personal safety for members of the university community through a courteous, helpful and professional manner.  This position provides a highly visual deterrent to campus crime while protecting the property and assets of the university. 

Provide security for persons, buildings, and assets of the university through a variety of security techniques and methods. Provide walking and/or vehicle escorts.  Drive university vehicle to transport passenger(s).  Assist disabled passengers into and out of vehicle. Assist students, staff and faculty in gaining entrance to secured areas when appropriate.

Education:

• High School Diploma or GED.

Experience:

• 2 years’ security work experience and/or physical security and protection of assets training; emergency services experience including fire and rescue; military and/or law enforcement experience; experience using radio communications equipment. 

Licenses/Certifications:

• Valid driver’s license.
• Act 34 clearance
• Act 235 (preferred)
• Law enforcement certification (ex. Act 120)
• Complete University safe driver program with van certification within 30 days of hire

(Equivalent combinations of education, licenses, certifications, training and/or experience may be considered.) 

Shift rotation: 

• 7 nights working followed by two days off
• 8 nights working followed by four days off
• Long weekend off (Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday) every 3^rd weekend 

Pay and Benefits

• $15.50 per hour
• Double time and ½ pay for designated university holidays.
• Vacation, personal, and sick time provided with full-time status and accrual.
