Job Summary

The SAP PP Master Data Specialist (Manufacturing & Production) is a business-side Subject Matter Expert (SME) responsible for the end-to-end lifecycle, governance, and integrity of product master data within our plant environment. Operating firmly within business operations, this role acts as a critical functional anchor, working directly with sales, product design, manufacturing, and supply chain teams to transform product specifications into accurate, executable master data structures. The ideal candidate will possess deep operational end-user knowledge of SAP modules (specifically PP/MM), bills of material (BOMs), and routing architectures, combined with a meticulous eye for data quality and process execution.

Key Responsibilities

Specification Gathering & Project Mapping

  • Partner cross-functional with sales, product design, manufacturing, and supply chain departments to gather technical specifications and operational requirements before data creation.
  • Develop and build comprehensive project maps within Excel to lay out all gathered specifications, map manufacturing production flows, and perform critical initial calculations.
  • Design and structure Excel project maps to fully support and streamline the subsequent material creation process, ensuring logical step-by-step production dependencies are established.

Material Master Data & SKU Creation

  • Create, update, validate, and maintain high-quality product master data within SAP based on finalized project maps to ensure operational readiness for customer orders.
  • Define and structure product families and unique Stock Keeping Units (SKUs) based on mapped specifications.
  • Utilize SAP mass update transactions within project scopes to accelerate data compilation, ensuring timely creation of data and eliminating manual tasks.
  • Establish accurate costing lot sizes and material cost estimates to support corporate finance and pricing strategies.

Bill of Materials (BOM) & Routing Architecture

  • Create and build functional Bills of Material (BOM) and technical routing structures in SAP based on project map layouts, sharing these frameworks with key stakeholders.
  • Validate BOM quantities, systematically troubleshoot discrepancies, and ensure accurate metric and unit conversions across production lines.
  • Dynamically update and maintain BOM and routing dependencies to reflect real-time product design changes.
  • Create and maintain work centers, managing essential data tables including machine run rates, setup times, and scrap factors.

Governance, Support & Project Management

  • Maintain strict data quality, accuracy, and absolute consistency within the SAP ecosystem.
  • Support corporate data governance policies and proactively maintain standard operating process documentation.
  • Provide functional end-user support for master data issues, investigating and resolving complex operational data structure challenges as the department SME.
  • Contribute to and manage large, complex product data management projects from initial planning phases through successful execution within strict deadlines.
  • Monitor, analyze, and report on core product data metrics and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to leadership.
