Summary:
This individual is an experienced visual thinker and conceptual creative who develops smart, effective work across digital, social, traditional and integrated marketing channels. The Senior Art Director is responsible for concepting and creating visually compelling work that supports client objectives, brings ideas to life and helps ensure the creative product is on brand, on strategy and built for how audiences engage today.
This person works closely with copywriters, designers, account teams, media teams, developers and creative leadership to develop campaign ideas, visual concepts and executions across a wide range of formats. The Senior Art Director should be comfortable taking greater ownership of concept development while bringing strong design and art direction skills in layout, typography, color, composition, photography, visual storytelling, design systems and UX/UI principles.
The Senior Art Director should be able to think strategically, present work clearly, guide visual execution across multiple touchpoints and help raise the overall quality of the creative product from concept through execution.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Other duties may be assigned)
- Develop visual concepts and campaign ideas for client projects across digital, social, email, web, video, print, outdoor and other campaign materials
- Partner with copywriters to concept and create strategically sound creative ideas and executions
- Create art direction and design work that is visually strong, on brand and aligned with the approved strategy
- Participate in brainstorms and contribute strong ideas at a conceptual level
- Develop layouts, storyboards, social concepts, digital ads, website and landing page designs, print materials, presentation materials and other creative executions
- Apply strong design skills in layout, typography, color, composition, hierarchy and visual consistency
- Translate campaign concepts into visual systems that can extend across multiple touchpoints
- Apply UX/UI thinking to website, landing page and digital experience assignments
- Support and help guide photo, video, illustration, animation and content development when needed
- Revise creative work based on feedback from creative leadership, account teams, media teams and clients
- Review work for accuracy, consistency, quality, brand standards, strategic alignment and production readiness
- Present creative work and explain visual decisions in internal meetings and client presentations when needed
- Stay current on design, UX/UI, digital, social, content and advertising trends
- Understand how creative works across paid media, social media, websites and digital marketing channels
- Help mentor and provide guidance to junior art directors, designers and creative team members
- Work with project management and account teams to meet deadlines and follow agency process
- Enter time on a daily basis and follow standard agency policies and procedures

- 3-5 years of agency, in-house or related art direction/design experience
- Strong portfolio demonstrating concept development, visual storytelling, design craft and campaign thinking
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, including InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop, as well as Figma
- Ability to concept and execute across digital, social, traditional and integrated campaign channels
- Strong understanding of layout, typography, color, composition, visual hierarchy and brand consistency
- Working understanding of UX/UI principles, wireframes, content hierarchy, responsive design and intuitive digital experiences
- Comfortable creating work for paid social, digital ads, websites, landing pages, emails, video, print, outdoor, presentations and other marketing materials
- Ability to partner closely with copywriters, designers, developers and creative leadership
- Detail-oriented, organized and able to manage multiple assignments at once
- Able to take feedback and revise work quickly, thoughtfully and strategically
- Comfortable presenting work and explaining creative decisions
- Collaborative team player with a positive attitude
- Strong problem-solving skills and curiosity about clients’ businesses
- Solid understanding of how creative works across paid media, social media and digital marketing channels
