Position Description Â
Our Staff Engineer is a key member of the engineering staff working across the organization to provide friction-less experiences to our customers and maintaining the highest standards of protection and availability. Key engineering responsibilities will focus on the development and continued maintenance of several web applications and their supporting architecture, including both customer-facing experiences as well as internally developed web tools to facilitate content management. Â

The ideal candidate has broad and deep technical knowledge bringing forward a full stack mindset, work duties can range from front-end UIs through back-end systems and all points in between. Â

Position Responsibilities Â
As a Staff Engineer, you will: Â
Evolve Geico.com and its supporting systems with a focus on speed to market, security, 24x7 availability, and user engagement. Â
Scope, design, and build scalable and resilient software solutions amongst diverse engineering groupsÂ
Utilize object-oriented languages, SQL based databases, Container Orchestration services including Docker and Kubernetes, and a variety of Cloud hosting tools and servicesÂ
Perform engineering design evaluations and code reviews with peers to elevate the quality of engineering across the organizationÂ
Manage day-to-day activities of the engineering teams overseeing execution of software development projects against delivery commitmentsÂ
Seek ways to simplify and standardize designs, operations, and deployment plans, focusing on reducing complexity and providing performance, agility, and scalabilityÂ
Responsible for production operations support and ensuring availability, stability, and performance of production applicationsÂ
Collaborate with cross-functional organizations throughout the entire software lifecycle to ensure technology and roadmap alignmentÂ
Manage projects and processes to keep the team organized, efficient, and optimally runningÂ
Set, manage, and report KPIs to measure progress and facilitate data-driven decision making Â
Responsible for evaluating and driving new technology and Open-Source software considerationsÂ
Research and guide architectural level changes that support and enhance application performance, security, and our drive to innovate Â
Mentor and manage engineering peers to help share the necessary skills to perform their jobs and develop their professional careersÂ

Qualifications Â
Strong understanding of customer facing web applications with experience in Next.JS/React, JavaScript, Python/Django, NGINX, or PostgreSQL.  Â
Ability to break down analytic data to drive decisions and results that will provide business value to the organization and help our customersÂ
Strong background in delivering digital - web products at scaleÂ
Strong understanding of cloud infrastructure concepts, platforms, and technologiesÂ
Advanced understanding of application and infrastructure monitoring and toolingÂ
Strong understanding of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC)Â
Experience designing flexible, scalable, high-availability Cloud native applicationsÂ
Experience architecting and designing new and current systemsÂ
Strong understanding of CI/CD, Release Management, and Configuration Management processes toolingÂ
Strong critical thinking, decision making, and problem-solving skillsÂ
Excellent verbal/written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate to both senior leadership and highly technical personnelÂ
Ability to excel in a fast-paced environmentÂ
Experience delivering within a customer facing application backed by a Content Management system is desiredÂ
Understanding of data modeling and AI concepts is desiredÂ

Annual Salary
$105,000.00 - $260,000.00The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/ annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate’s work experience, education and training, the work location as well as market and business considerations.
