This entry- to mid-level role focuses on day-to-day operations of our virtualized infrastructure, Windows server environment, networks, and datacenter hardware. The ideal candidate has a solid foundation in Windows Server, networking, and virtualization, with the aptitude to learn additional platforms and tools as our environment evolves.

You will work as part of a collaborative Technology Team that supports critical mission and business systems. This position emphasizes hands-on troubleshooting, operational excellence, and continuous learning aligned with Parsons' culture of innovation, integrity, and safety.

Key Responsibilities
Core Infrastructure & Networking
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and support virtual machines, servers, and networked resources in Parsons' IPKPP environments.
  • Perform basic diagnostics on connectivity issues across servers, virtual machines, and datacenter resources.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers to implement changes, upgrades, and new solutions following established procedures and change management practices.
  • Support incident response and root-cause analysis for infrastructure and network-related issues.
VMware & Virtualization
  • Log into vSphere/ESXi to check status of virtual machines and restart services/VMs as needed.
  • Perform basic deployments of virtual machines from templates or standard procedures.
  • Adjust virtual machine compute and storage resources under guidance (CPU, memory, disk).
  • Perform high-level status checks and basic diagnostics of vSphere environments.
  • Perform basic status checks, diagnostics, and minor maintenance of the ESXi operating system.

Note: While Parsons is likely to transition away from VMware in the future, current operations still rely on this platform. Flexibility and willingness to learn new virtualization technologies is essential.

Networking
  • Apply base networking knowledge to support and troubleshoot connectivity and access issues.
  • Work with IP addressing and subnetting to identify and resolve network-related issues affecting virtual machines and datacenter resources.
  • Utilize and assist in managing networking services such as DNS and DHCP, including basic troubleshooting and configuration checks.
  • Use standard methods and tools (e.g., ping, tracert/traceroute, nslookup, etc.) to diagnose connectivity issues.
Windows Server Management
  • Provide intermediate-level administration, management, and maintenance of Windows Server operating systems.
  • Support and troubleshoot Active Directory (AD) domain structures, including basic user, group, and service-related issues.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot issues at the Windows OS level on both virtual and physical servers.
  • Deploy Windows Server operating systems following established build standards.
  • Manage server updates and patching (e.g., WSUS or similar tools), including scheduling and basic troubleshooting of update issues.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose issues with key Windows services critical to business and mission systems.
Hardware Maintenance & Datacenter Support
  • Perform intermediate-level server hardware maintenance such as installing and replacing components (drives, memory, NICs, etc.) when onsite work is required.
  • Work with physical network cabling infrastructure: tracing cables, verifying connections, labeling, and coordinating corrections with appropriate teams.
  • Coordinate with vendors and senior staff on hardware support cases and warranty services.
Linux Operating System Support
  • Perform base-level troubleshooting of Linux OS issues, including user access or connectivity issues to Linux-based resources.
  • Deploy Linux images on virtual machines using established templates or build procedures.
Backup, Monitoring, Security & Storage Concepts
  • Apply conceptual understanding of backup and recovery technologies to assist in monitoring, basic troubleshooting, and operational tasks with the current backup platform.
  • Utilize server and resource monitoring tools to identify performance or availability issues; escalate appropriately.
  • Support endpoint protection tools and processes (AV/EDR) at a conceptual and operational level as directed by senior engineers.
  • Apply a basic understanding of server-level network security (firewalls, access control, secure configurations) to daily operations.
  • Work within established storage technology concepts (SAN/NAS, storage tiers, capacity, performance) to support troubleshooting and resource management.
Collaboration & Documentation
  • Work closely with senior engineers, security teams, and application owners to ensure system reliability, security, and performance.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, including build guides, runbooks, diagrams, and troubleshooting procedures.
  • Participate in an on-call or after-hours support rotation as required by project or operational needs.

General Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field; or equivalent relevant experience.
  • 0-3 years of experience in systems/network administration, infrastructure support, or similar role.
