Maintenance Tech A - Day ShiftPosition Overview
Shaw is hiring a Reliability Tech A with specialized skills in welding and fabrication. This role serves as a senior-level fabrication and welding specialist within the maintenance and reliability team. This individual will lead fabrication efforts, mentor junior technicians, and ensure high-quality fabrication standards across the plant.Â
This position is responsible for designing, building, and repairing equipment components through advanced welding and fabrication techniques while supporting overall equipment reliability. The technician will lead fabrication crews, contribute to root cause analysis of mechanical failures, and develop permanent solutions through custom fabrication and equipment modification.Â
Shift: 7am-3pm
Core ResponsibilitiesÂ
Fabrication & Welding LeadershipÂ
Lead fabrication crew on project work, installations, and equipment modificationsÂ
Perform MIG, TIG, and Stick welding on various materialsÂ
Execute pipe welding and structural welding as requiredÂ
Fabricate custom components including: Â
BracketsÂ
Stands and supportsÂ
Ensure weld quality meets plant and safety standardsÂ
Provide hands-on training and mentorship to Technicians D–BÂ
Blueprint & Design InterpretationÂ
Read and interpret 2D and 3D equipment drawingsÂ
Translate drawings into fabricated components and assembliesÂ
Take field measurements and develop fabrication plansÂ
Work with engineering and maintenance to improve equipment designÂ
Equipment Repair & Reliability SupportÂ
Support maintenance team by fabricating replacement parts and modificationsÂ
Participate in root cause analysis of equipment failuresÂ
Design and implement fabrication-based solutions to prevent recurring failuresÂ
Assist in installation and alignment of fabricated equipmentÂ
Tools, Measurement & SetupÂ
Accurately use measurement tools including:Â Â
Tape measuresÂ
CalipersÂ
Squares and levelsÂ
Lay out, measure, cut, and fit materials for fabrication projectsÂ
Select proper welding methods, filler materials, shielding gases, and equipment settingsÂ
Required Qualifications & SkillsÂ
Minimum 2 years of welding/fabrication experience in an industrial or manufacturing environmentÂ
Proficiency in: Â
MIG weldingÂ
TIG weldingÂ
Stick weldingÂ
Experience with pipe welding and structural fabricationÂ
Ability to read and interpret 2D and 3D drawingsÂ
Strong understanding of fabrication layout and fit-up techniquesÂ
Ability to lead small crews or project teamsÂ
Experience using basic measurement and layout toolsÂ
Preferred QualificationsÂ
Welding certifications (AWS or equivalent)Â
Experience fabricating equipment in a manufacturing environmentÂ
Experience supporting maintenance reliability initiativesÂ
Prior leadership or crew lead experienceÂ
Critical SkillsÂ
Strong problem-solving and root cause analysis capabilityÂ
Ability to design practical, long-term fabrication solutionsÂ
Attention to detail and craftsmanship in welding and fabricationÂ
Ability to train and develop other techniciansÂ
Physical Requirements:Â
Must be able to sit, stand or walk for the majority of shift.Â
Must be able to lift, push, pull and carry loads of up to 50 pounds without assistance.Â
Must be able to kneel, stoop, grasp and reach frequently.Â
Must be able to work with hands/arms extended overhead.Â
Must be able to operate hand and power tools and equipment.Â
May be required to use (ladders, lifts, baskets, etc.)Â
