Position Summary:

The role of the network engineer is to design and implement computer networks and security systems with a focus on high-level planning and design to support current and future business requirements. Network engineers choose suitable data communication components and configure and install them to meet organizational needs. Network engineers are responsible for implementing, operating, monitoring, configuring, and maintaining information systems.  The network engineer has a variety of tasks to perform such as installing network hardware, troubleshooting servers, operating software and hardware, managing network services, supporting network and telecom infrastructure, monitoring performance, managing security, managing user accounts, as well as restoring and backing up information systems. The network engineer’s goal is to guarantee the integrity of high availability network infrastructure to enable optimal performance for through continual service improvement and collaboration the IT Department and the organization. This role participates in on-call rotation. This is an on-prem position.



Educational Requirements/ Qualifications:

Associates degree in computer information systems/networking, bachelor’s degree preferred.


Job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is required.

 

The network engineer must demonstrate extensive knowledge of networks and computer systems through professional experience in at least three of the following areas: server, network, security, or virtualization.  Individual must demonstrate excellent logical reasoning, problem solving, communication, interpersonal, and computational abilities.

 

Valid driver’s license and evidence of insurability. A+/Network+, Cisco CCNA certifications desired. 




 

Job Functions/Responsibilities:

  • Participate in helpdesk support.
  • Establish network environment through the design of system configuration and the coordination of installation plans.
  • Define, document, and enforce IT standards.
  • Install and configure client and server network software and hardware.
  • Maintain and upgrade telecommunication and network systems.
  • Maximize network performance through performance monitoring, upgrade scheduling, and collaboration with network architects.
  • Troubleshoot network hardware and software malfunctions as well as issues arising from security and telecommunications systems to resolve operational issues.
  • Develop and implement security policies.
  • Install and maintain network security systems.
  • Ensure applications and hardware conform to organizational security standards by monitoring and analyzing system logs and configurations.
  • Maintain multi-site network software applications, operating systems, and regular system maintenance.
  • Manage assigned program and project components to deliver information technology services in accordance with objectives.
  • Respond to inquiries from administrators, staff, service providers, site personnel, and others to provide technical support and assistance.
  • Administer servers and systems to ensure service availability to authorized users.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of the basics behind the Internet and its workings (DNS, Security, IP Routing, HTTP, VPN, Email Routing, SPAM, etc.).
  • Configure and setup Firewalls, remote access, VPN Concentrators, and Security appliances for access to vital business applications.
  • Design, setup and configure complex switching environments
  • Design, setup and configure complex wireless networking that supports open or secured access and the ability to support voice and video applications.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of Local Area and Wide Area Networking.
  • Assist in the design of multi-server environments including IP address schemes, DNS, DHCP, etc.
  • Configure and install client and server network software for upgrading and maintaining network and telecommunication systems.
  • Configure and maintain network and security monitoring.
  • Create and maintain server and network documentation including network maps, server and network configuration, and overall maintenance plan for network and server hardware.
  • Design, setup, and configure backup functions.
  • Assist with strategic and future growth planning.
  • Serve on various committees and workgroups.
  • Mentor and support IT Staff.
  • Any other duties as assigned by management.
