SUMMARY:

The Quality Engineer is responsible for ensuring products, processes, and systems meet established quality, safety, and regulatory standards. This role supports manufacturing and supplier quality assurance by driving root cause analysis, corrective and preventive actions (CAPA), continuous improvement efforts, and compliance with Quality Management Systems (QMS) such as ISO 9001.

This position works cross-functionally with Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain, and Suppliers to improve product reliability, reduce defects, and enhance overall process performance.

Must be eligible to work in the US without Visa Sponsorship.

This position is not eligible for relocation compensation.

JOB DUTIES

  • Designs and implements equipment and tooling for production processes that will improve operational safety, quality, and efficiency.

  • Oversees generation and maintenance of CAD drawings for tooling and equipment design.

  • Provides support for design and development of new belting products.

  • Creates and implements process standards and specifications, introducing appropriate manufacturing controls where possible to provide for consistent operations to these standards.

  • Utilizes Lean Manufacturing tools to help advance operational Continuous Improvement throughout the organization.

  • Defines best practice approaches and help establish these practices throughout Motion's fabrication facilities.

  • Discusses and solves complex problems with manufacturing departments, sub-contractors, suppliers, and customers.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in an Electromechanical discipline.

  • 0–2 years of experience in quality, manufacturing, or engineering (internships/co-ops considered).

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

  • Ability to read and interpret drawings and technical documents.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of quality tools such as FMEA, Control Plans, SPC, MSA, and Root Cause Analysis.

  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 or other quality standards.

  • Exposure to Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma methodologies.

  • Experience using statistical software (e.g., Minitab or equivalent).

  • Knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing).

  • Experience with ERP or quality management systems (QMS software).

  • ASQ certifications (CQE, CQA, or Six Sigma Green Belt) are a plus.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES

Quality Assurance & Compliance

  • Support, maintain, and improve the Quality Management System (QMS) in compliance with ISO 9001 standards.

  • Develop, document, and implement quality procedures, work instructions, inspection plans, and control plans.

  • Participate in internal and external audits; support corrective action responses and audit readiness activities.

  • Ensure compliance with customer specifications, regulatory requirements, and company standards.

Inspection & Validation

  • Review engineering drawings and specifications to ensure quality requirements are clearly defined.

  • Support first article inspections (FAI) and production part approval processes (PPAP) when applicable.

  • Work with site Quality Control to ensure the procedures and methodologies will result in product that meets all quality requirements.

​Non-Conforming Materials Management

  • Lead the site’s nonconforming materials process for purchased components, work in process assemblies, and finished goods.

  • Review, document, and disposition nonconforming material in accordance with company procedures, engineering requirements, and customer specifications.

    • Use as is

    • Rework

    • Repair

    • Return to Vendor

    • Scrap

  • Coordinate cross-functional reviews involving Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations, Supply Chain, and other stakeholders as required.

  • Facilitate Material Review Board activities as required to support disposition decisions.

  • Track and manage Nonconforming material inventory within the Quality Management System

Root Cause & Corrective Action

  • Lead investigations into non-conformances, customer complaints, and product failures.

  • Conduct structured root cause analysis using tools such as 8D, 5 Whys, Fishbone (Ishikawa), and Pareto analysis.

  • Drive corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) and verify effectiveness.

Data Analysis & Reporting

  • Analyze quality metrics including scrap, rework, yield, and defect trends.

  • Utilize statistical tools and software to support decision-making and process improvements.

  • Prepare clear reports, dashboards, and presentations to communicate findings and progress to leadership and cross-functional teams.

Continuous Improvement

  • Lead or support Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma initiatives to reduce variation and eliminate waste.

  • Facilitate Kaizen events and process improvement workshops.

  • Identify cost-of-poor-quality (COPQ) reduction opportunities.

Supplier Quality

  • Evaluate and monitor supplier performance and quality systems.

  • Support supplier audits and corrective action management.

  • Partner with Supply Chain to resolve supplier-related quality issues.

Engineering & Technical Support

  • Review and interpret drawings, schematics, and specifications.

  • Assist with process validation, equipment qualification, and production layout reviews.

  • Provide quality-related training to operators and team members.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.
