Safety Lead
Job Type: Full-Time | Non-Exempt
Reports To: Safety Manager, in collaboration with Shop Manager
About the Role
Tactical Cleaning is seeking a Safety Lead to support our field operations and help maintain a strong safety culture. This is a hands-on position responsible for monitoring safe work practices, conducting inspections, supporting employee safety training, and ensuring compliance with company, customer, OSHA, and environmental requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct routine site inspections and identify, document, and report hazards.
- Monitor proper PPE use and safe work practices.
- Lead daily tailgate safety meetings and assist with JSAs.
- Inspect confined spaces, permits, signage, and entry requirements.
- Perform and document gas readings and ensure gas monitors are properly tested and used.
- Conduct weekly safety inspections, including SPCC inspections.
- Inspect safety equipment including fire extinguishers, eyewash stations, first aid kits, harnesses, lanyards, PPE, and gas monitors.
- Report and assist with investigations of incidents and near-misses.
- Support new employee safety onboarding, training, paperwork, and PPE requirements.
- Maintain safety boards, emergency plans, and required documentation.
- Work closely with the Shop Manager and Safety Manager to promote a safe, compliant work environment.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma/GED preferred.
- 1+ year of safety and/or freight/tank car experience preferred.
- Experience with industrial cleaning, construction, heavy equipment, or repair is a plus.
- OSHA 30, HAZWOPER, Confined Space, First Aid/CPR/AED certifications preferred.
- Basic computer skills, including Word and Excel.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Strong communication, organization, and attention to detail.
Physical & Work Requirements
- Ability to climb ladders and work at heights, on railroad tracks, and on, under, and inside railcars.
- Ability to work in confined spaces and around heavy equipment.
- Ability to lift/carry up to 50 lbs. and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to wear required PPE, including respirators and protective suits.
- Must pass required physical, drug/alcohol screening, respiratory wellness evaluation, and respirator fit testing.
- Must be available for overtimeÂ
