Job Summary
The Orthopedic Technician is responsible for providing patient care services related to the fitting, application, adjustment, and maintenance of orthopedic braces, supports, splints, casts, and other durable medical equipment as prescribed by healthcare providers. This position serves as a liaison between physicians, patients, and the DME company to ensure patients receive appropriate orthopedic devices and education for optimal outcomes.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Fit, apply, adjust, and remove orthopedic braces, splints, walking boots, immobilizers, compression devices, and other prescribed DME products.
- Educate patients and caregivers on the proper use, care, maintenance, and safety of orthopedic devices.
- Review physician orders and patient documentation to ensure appropriate device selection and application.
- Measure patients and determine proper sizing for orthopedic equipment.
- Assist physicians and healthcare providers with orthopedic procedures as needed.
- Monitor patient comfort and report concerns or complications to the prescribing provider.
- Maintain accurate patient records, fitting documentation, and inventory records in accordance with company policies.
- Ensure compliance with Medicare, Medicaid, commercial insurance, and accreditation requirements.
- Process documentation required for billing and reimbursement.
- Manage inventory levels and maintain stock of orthopedic supplies and equipment.
- Inspect, clean, and maintain equipment according to manufacturer guidelines.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and ongoing staff education.
- Adhere to HIPAA regulations and maintain patient confidentiality.
- Follow all safety, infection control, and regulatory standards.

EQUIPMENT USED/SPECIAL SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Knowledge of orthopedic anatomy, fracture management, casting, splinting, and bracing techniques.
- Strong interpersonal and patient-service skills.
- Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR) and documentation systems.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience in orthopedic care, sports medicine, DME, or a related healthcare setting preferred.
- Experience working in orthopedic clinics, physician practices, hospitals, or DME organizations.
- Knowledge of insurance verification, prior authorization, and reimbursement processes.
