Job Summary:

We are recruiting for a unique genetic counselor opportunity! This position incorporates the Geisinger Health Plan (GHP) along with clinical and research opportunities in cancer genetics. This is an on-site, full time position. Remote employment will not be considered at this time.

Licensed Genetic Counselors with work experience in the areas of medical genetics and genetic counseling. Work as leaders of health care and research teams, providing information and support to families, individuals considering genetic testing, and to individuals participating or considering participating in research. Develop and manage research projects and clinical programs related to the field of medical genetics, genetic testing, genetic counseling, and bioethics. Supervise Research and Clinical Staff including Genomic Medicine Assistants (GMAs), Genetic Counselor 1’s, and Genetic Counselor 2’s.

Job Duties:

  • Able to meet the practice-based competencies of the American Board of Genetic Counseling and provide patient centered care. 
  • Supervision of genetic counselor colleagues.
  • Coordinate staff resources to support program operations. Direct the operations and provide direct oversight to all clinic related activities.
  • Work with Human Resources for hiring, promotion, salary adjustments, and other personnel matters.
  • Manage two or more research initiatives or projects. 
  • Develop and direct the implementation and evaluation of research projects and programs.
  • Develop and lead research projects within the defined scope of the supervising faculty member's research program.
  • May submit authored grants in collaboration with the supervisor.
  • Participate in development of experimental design, collecting data, performing calculations, and analyzing results.
  • Provides background research and writing to develop new protocols, projects or grants applications for assigned work group.
  • Participates in research meetings, internal seminars and national meetings to present, explain, and discuss research conducted by the work group.
  • Leadership role in one or more educational initiatives.
  • Plan and lead a course for GC or other professional students.
  • Primary thesis/capstone advisor. 
  • Participate in Mentoring Committees for GC Level 1 and 2 colleagues.

Position Details:

This role is designed with career progression in mind. High-performing individuals who exhibit leadership qualities will have the opportunity to be considered for a Team Lead position, which includes the following responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and oversight for the cancer genetic counseling team of genetic counselors and genetic counseling assistants, including workload distribution, case presentation, and ensuring adherence to the most up-to-date clinical guidelines and best practices.

  • Serve as a clinical resource and mentor, supporting team members with complex cases, facilitating professional development, and promoting a collaborative and high-quality patient care environment.

  • Coordinate operational and programmatic initiatives, such as workflow optimization, quality improvement projects, and collaboration with multidisciplinary oncology teams to enhance service delivery.

GHP responsibilities include:

 

  • Review current scientific literature and clinical guidelines to inform policy development and updates.

  • Collaborate with medical directors and policy teams to create and revise coverage policies for genetic and genomic testing.

  • Monitor emerging trends in genetic testing and precision medicine to ensure policies remain current and clinically relevant.

  • Support internal education efforts by presenting updates on genetic testing technologies and clinical utility.

Master's Degree-Genetic Counseling (Required)
