WQAD News 8 is looking for an experienced, energetic, creative, and community-minded Content Contributor to help create compelling content that informs, entertains, and connects with audiences across television, streaming, digital, and social platforms.

The ideal candidate is a dynamic storyteller who enjoys building relationships throughout the community and creating engaging content wherever our audience is consuming it. This role will focus on developing original community-focused features, hosting multiplatform content, and representing WQAD at station initiatives and local events.

The Content Contributor works collaboratively with newsroom leaders, producers, photographers, and digital teams to develop content that strengthens WQAD's connection with the communities we serve.

Responsibilities

  • Create original content for broadcast, streaming, digital, and social media platforms.
  • Develop and host recurring community-focused features and other multiplatform content.
  • Produce engaging long-form and short-form video content, including interviews, special projects, and digital-first storytelling.
  • Represent WQAD at community events, station initiatives, and promotional opportunities.
  • Build relationships with local organizations, businesses, schools, and community leaders to identify unique content opportunities.
  • Write, edit, and publish content across television, digital, streaming, and social platforms.
  • Create engaging vertical video and social-first content that grows audience engagement.
  • Collaborate with newsroom staff to develop creative, audience-focused content and special coverage.
  • Generate original story and content ideas that reflect the interests of the communities we serve.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • 10 or more years of professional storytelling, content creation, or on-air experience in television, digital media, communications, marketing, or a related field.
  • Comfortable and confident on camera in both live and recorded settings.
  • Strong communication, interviewing, writing, and storytelling skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to build authentic relationships throughout the community and identify compelling content opportunities.
  • Demonstrated creativity and an understanding of audience engagement across multiple platforms.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and work independently.
  • Flexible schedule, including occasional mornings, evenings, weekends, and community events.
  • Experience shooting, writing, editing, and publishing video content is a plus.
  • Experience with digital publishing, social media, and non-linear video editing is preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, Broadcasting, Marketing, or a related field is preferred, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Current driver's license with the ability to travel throughout the viewing area.
Pay Range
$32—$33.65 USD

Benefits:

Our 401(k) program offers full, part-time and temporary employees the opportunity to contribute 1% - 80% of their pay on a pre-tax basis to TEGNA’s 401(k). Contributions made up to the first 4% of pay are eligible for a 100% match from the company and are 100% vested from day one.

Regardless of participation in TEGNA medical plans, ALL employees and their eligible family members receive nine free virtual doctor’s appointments with a physician through Teladoc, and 12 free annual therapy sessions with a licensed clinician through Spring Health.

TEGNA offers a generous Paid Time Off (PTO) benefit as well as nine paid holidays per year.
