The Pep Band Director directs all aspects of the pep band program, ensuring it serves as a high-impact element of basketball game days in Belk Arena and select college events. Recruits, develops, and retains a dedicated, diverse student membership by partnering with admissions, the music department, athletics marketing, and student engagement. Provides energetic musical direction by teaching engaging repertoire and leading organized rehearsals that prepare students for confident, spirited performances.

Basic Function:

Directs all aspects of the pep band program to serve as an essential element of basketball game days and select college events
Recruit and retain a dedicated student population to serve as band members utilizing a variety of instruments
Teach engaging and high energy music to the band for the enjoyment of basketball fans within Belk Arena
Position the pep band to be a leading example of school spirit and campus pride among all university stakeholders
Work collaboratively with marketing and game day staff to produce a pep band program that supports a robust game day experience to exceed fan expectations

Essential Functions:

Program Leadership & Student Management
- Recruit students annually to participate in the pep band program by collaborating with admissions, the music department, athletics marketing, and student engagement
- Serve as the primary leader within the band program to create a collaborative, communicative, and engaging environment that students want to actively participate in annually
Musical Direction & Rehearsals
- Execute a routine practice schedule to ensure all participants are trained properly and are prepared for all performances
- Serve as the lead director on game days to play engaging and high energy music to compliment an exciting game day atmosphere
Game Day Operations
- Communicate effectively with the Associate Athletic Director for Marketing & Revenue Generation on all game day priorities, needs and challenges
- Work collaboratively with all game day staff including the cheer program on music arrangements that compliment spirit squad performances
